John and Christine made us welcome as soon as we arrived and nothing was too much trouble throughout the holiday. The accommodation catered us very nicely indeed as we are a family of four plus my parents who were with us also. The pool area was lovely and the heated pool makes such a difference. This allowed us to mix our time between days out and relaxing by the pool so we had a really relaxing time. A visit to Puy du Fou is well worth it and number of supermarkets within a short driving distance. We were also lucky in that we met with a very nice couple who were renting John and Christine's other property in the area. We made use of the bikes that were available to us also on one of the mornings. La Rochelle was easily reached as was Les Sables d'Olonne. Vouvant is a 15 minute drive away and well worth a visit. We cannot thank John and Christine enough for their hospitality and they have the mix of making sure you have everything you need and all is ok with letting you get on with your holiday - we never once felt we were being watched or on egg shells in any way. The hamlet is remote and we walked to the nearby village once - it is a fair walk! Would I recommend this property - absolutely.

Malcolm and Pat Mabbott stayed for 2 weeks from 25 June 2011 and said "Both Pat an I would like to thank you both for a great holiday, we could not have asked for anything better. the accommodation was the best we have had on any holiday we have had in France." (They booked again for 4 weeks last year !)
About the Owner
Christine and I live in Essex . I am now retired since January 2010 but spent my entire working life in the travel business working with some of the best known brands in the industry such as British Caledonian Airways, Blue Sky Holidays and Travelscene. Prior to retiring I helped set up what is now the largest UK on-line bed bank, Hotels4u.com and Medhotels five years ago before selling the company to the Thomas Cook Group in 2007. Travel and tourism is in my blood and we were delighted to purchase our first house in France in 2005 and the subsequent two additional properties in 2007 and 2008. All three renovated properties are situated close to each other in the lovely rural hamlet of La Riviere Morin just outside the village of La Caillere in the Vendee.
Year property purchased: 2007
Why this location?
It was always our dream to live in France when we retired and we purchased our first house in La Riviere Morin in 2005. The rural nature of the Vendee appealed to us and the friendliness of the people and the sheer space ticked all the boxes. It is also within easy distance of the Loire Valley with all its magnificent Chateaux (not that we've visited many yet!) It's been great fun, not to say a lot of hard work to complete the decoration and refurbishment of our own house and to do the same to our two other properties that we are now letting to guests. We look forward to welcoming our guests and to share the delights of the region.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
We try to visit our house every month and spend most of the summer there. The locals are always very welcoming and we enjoy our meals in the local restaurant but perhaps more especially relaxing in our beautiful garden over supper in the evening after a day beside the pool. We also grow our own vegetables but there's much more space yet to cultivate to make us self sufficient in the coming months and years. As the barbecue dies, there's nothing more enjoyable than looking up at the sky at night and wondering at the myriad of stars up there whilst hearing the owls hooting above us. Last summer has seen the best crop of cherries we've ever seen on a tree in our garden and the quince harvest will be second to none. Bliss!
