About the owner
Having spent 10 years teaching English in both Switzerland and Germany, back in 1997 I took the bull by the horns and decided to transfer lock stock and barrel to the Aude, this beautiful region of south west France, or the Midi as it is known. I fell in love with my house at first sight and then spent the next years uncovering its true charm and beauty, and developing the unused space until it is at it appears today. I became an estate agent for 6 years, but gave this up 6 years ago to concentrate on offering my home for rental, whilst renovating a stone barn just nearby. I also took up painting again after about 40 years absence and I am now devoting much more time to this pursuit, some of the results of which guests can see for themselves around the house!
Year purchased: 1997
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Quite simply I fell in love with the house! However, it turned out to be near all the other things I love about this area - turbulent history, vineyards, sunflowers, mountain ranges, beautiful scenery, lovely towns, castles galore, rivers, lakes charming villages - the list goes on! It is in an ideal location to access everything without losing the charm of a countryside environment.
Unique benefits of the property
The village of La force is friendly and very well situated giving easy access to other local villages and pretty towns. The motorway lies 7 minutes away by car, again permitting easy access to places like Toulouse, Narbonne, Bézier, Montpellier, Perpignan, Collioure, Barcelona and all the coastal resorts plus the Pyrenées. It is great for people who love walking or cycling through the rolling hills and wooded areas around the village. The Black Mountains are particularly lovely in the summer, offering a slightly cooler, more wooded environment. Art lovers bring your paper and paints and capture the beauty of the area and magnificent skys!Wine lovers will be spoilt for choice by the abundance of vineyards nearby all inviting you to taste their range of wines, white, red and rose.
