Local swimming pools and swimming lake 20 mins. Beautiful local walks, cycling, riding, tennis, parachuting, and, within 1hrs drive, Pyrenean skiing, rafting, canoeing and the famous Marciac Jazz Festival.

Atlantic coast Biarritz, St Jean de Luz 2.5 hours drive on the motorway. Mediterranean coast Perpignan and down to Collioure 3.5 hours drive via Toulouse on the motorway.
Golf
There is an 18 hole golf course in Lannemezan set against a stunning backdrop of the Pyrenees. Approx 20 mins drive away.
Skiing
Nearest ski and snowboarding resorts within 1hr include St Lary Soulan, Peyragudes, Piau Engaly and La Mongie (which connects over the Col du Tourmalet to Bareges and the largest ski area in the Pyrenees). Cross country skiing and snowshoeing at Nistos 40 mins. Smaller ski resorts include Le Mourtis, Hautacam.
Travel
Toulouse Blagnac airport is 1hr 15 mins drive (BA / Easyjet / BMIbaby / Jet2 / Air France). Pau Uzein airport is 1 hour 30 mins drive (City jet). Tarbes / Lourdes airport is 50 mins drive (Ryanair). Carcassonne Salvaza 2 hours drive (Ryanair).
Train station at Lannemezan 20 mins drive (regular services to Toulouse, Tarbes, Pau).

Further details
Castelnau Magnoac has a market on Saturday selling Pyrenean cheeses, locally produced pork, duck, foie gras, honey, vegetables, fruit and plants. There are a variety of local shops: bakers, butcher, paper shop, post office, bank, antique book shop, hairdressers, cafes and restaurant at the Hotel Dupont plus a supermarket and petrol stations, doctors, dentists, a stroll down the hill from the village. There is even a small cinema showing 2 films a week. In the centre of the village is the Corps Francs Pommies memorial and museum of the French Resistance.
The Hotel Dupont and other local restaurants specialise in delicacies such as Magret de Canard en Cocotte (duck breasts cooked over garlic potatoes), Civet de Sanglier (Wild Boar stew), Foie Frais aux Pommes (duck liver with apples), Glace aux Pruneaux (prune icecream with Armagnac). Local wines worth trying include Madiran, Buzet, Jurancon, Cote de Saint Mont, Tariquet and many others. Springtime is the season for Vide Greniers (local boot sales) and antique fairs.
In July the Tour de France often passes through the area and keen cyclists can try out the Col d'Aspin and Col du Tourmalet (17 km hill climb!). All through the summer months there are numerous fetes and concerts in villages nearby. During the first two weeks of August Marciac hosts the famous international Jazz Festival.
In the winter there is a huge selection of large and small ski resorts the nearest being St Lary Soulan, La Mongie (which links with Bareges), and Peyragudes within 1hrs drive and cross country skiing at Nistos.
The Pyrenees are renowned for their spa towns and the "cure" can be sampled all year round at Balnea - Genos Loudenvielle (1hr), St Lary Soulan (50 mins), Bareges (2hrs), Bagneres de Luchon (1.5hr).
The foothills of the Pyrenees have wonderful walks and hikes and the more intrepid can try sections of the GR 10, the trail from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean.
