This idyllic 17th century stone cottage is set in the peaceful hamlet of St Georges de la Riviere and offers a perfect setting for a very quiet relaxing holiday. The only noise in the garden is birdsong! Within a short walk are miles of unspoilt sandy beaches, dunes and rockpools. Nearby Barneville, Carteret and Porbail sell fresh local produce including superb freshly caught seafood on their weekly market days. Portbail has large areas of creeks and flats which are exposed when the tide is out – a haven for wading birds. Nearby in St. Jean de la Riviere there is a nine-hole golf course, riding school and tennis courts. Both Carteret, Barneville and Portbail are a short drive away and boast a full range of shops, restaurants and bars.

2008 rates retained for 2009. Prices are for the property per week in UK Pounds. We regret part week rentals are not available in July/August but we are very happy to be flexible at all other times - rental will be calculated on a daily basis for short breaks, plus a cleaning charge of £30 if under 4 days. Generous discounts for longer winter lets.
Changeover day
During peak periods the changeover day is Saturday and guests should be prepared to vacate the property by 10am, or to arrive no earlier than 4.30pm.

Notes on accommodation
Full electric central heating plus woodburner, therefore suitable for low season breaks. Property is very safe for children, having an enclosed back garden and wrought iron gated front garden. The property is situated on a quiet side-road that leads only to the beach and dunes.

Accessibility
The property, due to its age and character, unfortunately cannot be modified for wheelchair access.
Outside
The front garden is enclosed by wrought iron gates and is laid to flower beds and driveway. The rear garden is enclosed with fruit trees and lawn. There is a patio which has the sun all day long, with barbecue and outdoor furniture. The property is situated in a quiet road leading to the beach and dunes, with neighbouring properties in the area being well-maintained and picturesque.
Coast/Beach
The long sandy beaches of St. Georges de la Riviere are 15 minutes walk or a 5 minute cycle ride away (there are three bicycles in the garage). Your car can be driven right up to the dunes immediately adjacent to the beach. The beach has a slipway to launch a boat.
Golf
Nine-hole golf course in the neighbouring village of St. Jean de la Riviere close to the sea.
Travel
Cherbourg is about a 40 minute drive from the cottage. It is the nearest ferry port with regular sailings from Portsmouth, Poole and Rosslaire. A fast ferry service (2 1/2 hours) is available April - October from Portsmouth and Poole. LD lines offer cheaper fares from Portsmouth or Newhaven to Le Havre but this would involve a longer drive (good motorway links). The nearest airports are Cherbourg (40 mins.) and Caen (100) mins. Flybe and BMIbaby fly to Jersey, then short ferry to Carteret.
Distances
Barneville and Portbail are the nearest villages being a 10 minute drive away. Local places of interest :- Coutances, an ancient town with cathedral 40mins, Mont de St. Michel town and monastery 90mins, Bayeux tapestry 60mins, Utah beach with war museums and cemeteries 40mins.
Further details
There is a wealth of interest in this beautiful area. Carteret never loses its charm, as the coast's most famous resort with its harbour, marina and clifftop walks. There are excellent traditional restaurants as well as pizzeria, brasserie and bars in nearby Carteret, Barneville and Portbail (all 10 mins.) Le Clos Rubier, with its large wood fire rotisserie is at the top of the road two minutes walk away. Two bar/restaurants in Portbail directly overlook the estuary - very pleasant on sunny days. Prices are reasonable and service friendly. At St-Lo d'Ourville there is a 14th Century Manoir du Parc and farm - ideal for children who will love the farm animals. There are nature trails and the area is ideal for cycling and walking. There are day trips to the Channel Isles from both Portbail and Carteret (April - October), sailing schools at Carteret and Portbail, as well as sand yachting and boats for hire. For the more adventurous there is a microlight school at Portbail.
