Owner profile
About the owner
I live in the Midlands and use my house in Navarrenx with family and friends from time to time during the year. Because there are many weeks when it is empty it seems a good idea to rent it out to holidaymakers who would also appreciate the unique area. The house is simple, bright and airy and in the most wonderfully quiet location on the edge of town.
I am an artist and I find being in south-west France provides a lot of inspiration for my painting, with its characteristic Bearnaise and Basque villages, mountain scenery and lush valleys.
Year purchased: 2002
Why the owner chose a home in this location
I bought my house in Navarrenx in 2002. As a family we had always enjoyed taking holidays in France and liked the idea of being connected to the continent in a small way, so that having a base in France made this a reality. The area in the south-west of France had always appealed to us, with its lush, green hills (so different from the dryness of the Mediterranean), its views of the mountains and its proximity to the sea in the west making it such a varied and interesting destination. Of course the region is also close to Spain and the different routes across the Pyrenees are spectacular in all weathers, not just taken by cars but also cyclists (practising for the Tour de France) and walkers following the Pilgrims route from Santiago de Compostela.
