Laroche is situated in its own large grounds, from where you can walk or cycle through a tranquil countryside of hills and valleys, past small farms and through woods of oak and chestnut. Listen to bird song by day, star gaze by night. It is comfortably furnished, much of the furniture being hand-crafted. It has plenty of sunny and shady sitting out places, a shady barbecue area, table tennis, badminton, boules, a large field for ball games and the lovely 10x5m swimming-pool. Organic vegetables (depending on the weather!), free range eggs and home made jam for sale. The animals will greet you with enthusiasm and entertain visitors young and not so young! The pretty town of Brantôme has a beautiful riverside setting, cafés and restaurants and a weekly market. At Villars, 5km, there are wonderful caves and a superb Renaissance château. Périgueux has a finely restored and lively old town. Nearby are horse-riding, a tennis court, canoeing and lake-swimming.

Notes on prices
The price is for four people renting the ground floor only.
Please add £10 per night for four people to rent the upstairs as well. The whole gîte is available from 19/05/12 until 01/09/12 and the upstairs is not rented out separately.
The gîte will easily accommodate more than four people; please contact owner for prices.
20% discount for one or two people renting the ground floor (except for July and August).
Changeover day
Bookings may be made from and to any day of the week. The normal minimum booking is 6 nights, however shorter stays may be available depending on other bookings. The gîte is let from 4pm on the day of arrival until 10am on the day of departure.

Notes on accommodation
Prices include gas, electricity, water and downstairs heating - woodburning stove and radiators for Spring and Autumn. There is plenty of room for children to run around and play games and they usually love the animals.
Laroche is entirely non-smoking.
Accessibility
The downstairs has one bedroom and shower room on the same level and should be suitable for people with slightly reduced mobility. The outside terrace is similarly accessible.
Outside
The gîte (on the right of the main photo) has a large terrace with tables, chairs and sunshades. Table tennis may be played on the terrace too. A little way away is a shaded sitting area with barbecue, table and chairs. The 10x5m swimming-pool (fenced) has sun terrace, sun loungers and parasols and is surrounded by trees and shrubs. It is used by owner, but visitors have sole use for most of the day.
All around are flower borders, large grassy areas and meadows - plenty of room for children to run around. Many varieties of orchid can be found in the Spring. Over 80 species of birds have been seen, and deer and wild boar are often to be seen in the surrounding fields. At Laroche one can relax and feel in harmony with nature and the country way of life.

Further details
Nearest places for shopping, banks, restaurants are Brantome and Nontron. Most local villages have a small shop and a bakers. Canoeing is available at Brantome and Bourdeilles. Brantome, the "Venise du Périgord" is very pretty town, well worth visiting for its Abbey and market day on Friday. Bourdeilles and Puyghuilhem chateaux are interesting and picturesque. The Grottes de Villars with their stalagmites and stalactites are very close and are among the best caves in the Dordogne. Lake swimming and horse riding are available in the area and there is a tennis court in Champagnac de Belair.
Périgueux, the Prefecture of the Dordogne is well worth a visit to make the tour of the old town, visit the finely restored Roman site of Vesuna, or simply watch the world go by, sitting at one of the many outdoor cafés.
The prehistoric sites near Les Eyzies and Sarlat and other towns in the south of the Dordogne are only 2 hours drive away.
Booking notes
Bookings may be made by phone or email to the owner and should be accompanied by a (non-refundable) deposit of 25%. The balance should be paid no later than eight weeks before the start of the holiday. If visitors have to cancel, the balance will be refunded if the gîte is re-let.
No damage deposit is required, but a reasonable charge is made for breakages.
