Chalet Jolyvue is a chalet style apartment only 5 minutes walk from the charming and unspoilt centre of Les Contamines-Montjoie, France. The ski chalet apartment is rented during the winter for skiing and during the summer for hiking, mountain biking and other outdoor pursuits. Located in an idyllic spot, surrounded by trees and a stream, on the south-west facing slopes of Les Contamines with splendid views across to Mont Joly. It is fully equipped and can accommodate 5 people in 3 bedrooms. Totally self-contained, with its own external access, sloping timber ceilings and south-west facing balcony (big enough for dining alfresco) and feels like a stand alone traditional chalet. Off road car parking, and a garage/cave to keep your skis/hiking boots/mountain bikes in the basement. Ski-lifts approx. 3-4 minutes drive with large free car parks.

Changeover day
Changeover day is usually on a Saturday. Arrival is from 4pm and we ask guests for vacate the chalet by 11am on the day of departure.

Notes on accommodation
Pets are allowed on application only provided they are small, quiet, house trained and don't sit on the furniture or beds. It is a no-smoking apartment.
Accessibility
The apartment is accessed via an external staircase. Bedrooms 1 and 2 are accessed via an internal staircase.
Outside
The chalet is surrounded by a shared garden. There is a south facing balcony with table and chairs for sitting and eating outside in the summer.
Golf
Megeve and Chamonix golf courses are 30 mins and 40 mins respectively away. Both are first class courses. Evian and Annency are a little further away, but well worth the trip. There is a very scenic golf driving range in the village adjacent to the swimming lake + bar and restaurant.
Skiing
Les Contamines combines truly stunning views with exceptional snow cover. Mont Blanc towers above the village, whilst its secluded location ensures that it remains relatively quiet and truly unspoilt. Its snowfall record is the envy of many big name resorts, and virtually all of the skiing is above 1900m. The delightful local open slopes are ideal for sunny cruising whilst the regional pass covers some of the best skiing in Europe, including the varied pistes of St Gervais and Megeve. Les Contaminess local ski area, with over 120km of uncrowded pistes has many wonderful runs through the trees. Two telecabins take you up to the main area at Le Signal where at 1,900m, the majority of the skiing begins and extends upwards. Excellent snow cover is assured from December to the end of April providing for superb spring snow skiing. Additionally there are 29km of cross-country skiing and for snow boarders there is a floodlit half-pipe in town and a snow park.
Travel
Les Contamines is a 60 minute drive from Geneva Airport, or 7-8 hours drive from Calais. The use of a car in the village is not essential but is recommended to access the full range of facilities.
Further details
Les Contamines is a traditional Alpine village which is dominated by the eastern side of the Mont Blanc massif, the views are stunning. In summer the town is a mass of flowers and offers a multitude of sports activities and entertainment. It is a hiker's paradise with miles of marked trails for all levels and many more further afield at nearby St Gervais, Chamonix and Megeve. The Tour de Mont Blanc runs through the village as does the long distance walk the GR5.
There is a very scenic large swimming lake (+ beach, bar and restaurant), golf driving range, 8 championship tennis courts, highwire adventure course, rock climbing school and boating lake in the gorge at the end of the village. Other sports include, mountain biking (the ski lifts are converted to accommodate mountain bikes in the summer), rock climbing, mountaineering and parapenting. There is also a very attractive open air swimming pool (+ restaurant) in St. Gervais (10 minutes away). Additionally there is horse riding, donkey rides, archery, trampolining and mini-golf.
Chalet Jolyvue stays beautifully cool in the summer and is only 5 minutes walk from the village centre where there are two small supermarkets, restaurants, banks, tourist office, pharmacy, shops and bars.

Guest comments
This apartment is really charming and has all the comforts of home you could ever need. We were so comfortable there - a family of 5 fits perfectly. It is a great cozy place to come back to after a day of skiing. Fluffy bath towels, warm down comforters, open fireplace, and a selection of DVDs make the chalet very homey. It is also very clean and tidy and an excellent value for the money. It's very close to the Les Contamines ski resort - and the village is within walking distance. A car is useful for getting to the ski resort and other towns nearby. I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a relaxing week with your family. We were able to book into the ski school on-line and rent our equipment in the village. There are some shops, bakeries, and restaurants - but overall Les Contamines is a quaint, quiet village. The views from the tops of the mountains are breathtaking.

About the owner
We live in England with our two cocker spaniels but spend as much as 3 months of the year in the chalet in les Contamines - both summer and winter and it is a wonderful place to be if you like to be outdoors. We are both self employed which allows us to be flexible with our life style.
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We bought chalet Jolyvue in the summer of 2007 after having spent several holidays in the area and after a lot of looking and it has been one of the best decisions of our lives. Les Contamines is a great ski and summer resort but remains relatively unknown compared to its neighbours - Chamonix and Megeve - and so has retained a friendly village atmosphere. All our visitors comment on the friendliness of the village. It is very easy to get to from Geneva airport and is only 15 minutes drive after leaving the motorway.
Unique benefits of the property
The chalet is a perfect base to explore the area from. It stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It is near the village centre but in a quiet corner and feels very secluded. We spend a lot of time walking in the summer and skiing in the winter but have also discovered cross country skiing, ski touring, snow shoeing, rock and ice climbing. There is so much to do in les Contamines both summer and winter.
