Les Aigles is a beautiful, newly renovated villa in the heart of rural Languedoc-Roussillon in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is located one hour west of Perpignan and the Mediterranean coast, and 45 minutes south of the medieval city of Carcassonne. The villa is set in a 2 acre garden with stunning views of the mountains to all sides, and a short walk to the hamlet of Laval. Although incredibly peaceful and tranquil, the convenience of a supermarket and the traditional old town of Quillan are a 5 minute drive through the countryside. The house is named after the birds of prey (eagles and buzzards), which can be frequently spotted above the house and the surrounding area. Summer life at Les Aigles is centred around the outdoor space to the rear of the property. A new 10 x 5m pool with incredible views towards forests and mountains, plus a large terraced area including a shaded dining terrace create a tranquil environment where it is impossible not to relax.

Notes on accommodation
Les Aigles is on 1 level, apart from the mezzanine playroom. The villa is light and tastefully decorated and furnished. All bedrooms have ample storage and hanging space for your clothes. There is central heating and a log burning stove for the cooler months of the year.
Accessibility
The main part of the villa, including the outdoor dining terrace and pool terrace is all on 1 level. There are however steps up to the front door.
Outside
The large gardens overlook the mountains on all sides. The front of the property is gated and fenced/hedged. There are various fruit trees and the area around the pool terrace has been landscaped in keeping with the local area (olive trees/lavender.rosemary etc). The pool is private, 10 x 5m with a safety shelf running around the deep end, and Roman steps at the shallow end ideal for children playing. It is heated, and covered with a security cover (required under French law). There is a large terrace running the length of the pool, to allow ample space for outdoor life in the summer. Some of this has been covered with a fixed arbour for days when the sun is just too hot! Adjacent to this is the shaded outdoor dining terrace and BBQ area. At the bottom of the garden is a path which leads to the village and river (usually no more than a stream in the summer). There are numerous walks from here around the local area.

Les Aigles is located in Laval, a hamlet in the heart of rural Languedoc-Roussillon in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is a 5 minute drive from the town of Quillan - a traditional old market town, 1 hour west of Perpignan and the Mediterranean coast, and 45 minutes south of the medieval city of Carcassonne.
Laval has a population of about 180. A path from the back of the garden leads to ‘the village’ which comprises traditional stone houses, a church, a (small) river and many beautiful walks. There are usually children playing in the village square. The bread van visits the village each morning.
Laval is situated in the heart of Cathare country, and there is a fantastic selection of ancient castles with stunning views, all within 45 minutes drive from the house - the closest being the stunning Puilaurens which is just a 15 minutes drive. The world heritage site of the Carcassonne Cite is 50 minutes away, and must not be missed.
The Pyrenees are equally beautiful in both winter and summer, and there are some stunning gorges within an easy drive from the house. If you want to dip your toes in the Mediterranean, the nearest beaches are just over 1 hours drive away. As well as the inexhaustible options for walking, there are numerous organised adventure excursions available, including white water rafting, canoeing and canyoning. There is also an excellent dinosaur museum 15 minutes away.
Finally, there is a huge variety of local wines, including the Cremants and Blanquettes de Limoux, which are the excellent local sparkling wines.
