Our light and airy house is located in a small hamlet, surrounded by farm land. It is only 5 minutes drive to the nearest village (Tregunc) where you will find shops, banks, pharmacy and supermarket but another 5 minutes driving will take you to the large fishing port of Concarneau, with its old walled citadel and plenty of restaurants and shops, plus a twice weekly market. The ground floor of the house is open plan, with a large kitchen area, separate dining area and comfortable lounge. There are 2 sets of patio doors opening onto decking in the garden and sunbeds and chairs are provided. There is a double bedroom and shower room on the ground floor, with 3 bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. One bedroom is equipped with a 2nd TV and DVD player and would be suitable for games consoles. The house also has wi fi available. The basement is equipped with a table tennis table, dart board and pool table, plus a second fridge freezer for all that local cider and seafood.

Notes on accommodation
Pets may be taken with owners agreement - please contact us to discuss the suitability of the property for your pet. There will be an additional cost for end of stay cleaning.
A large garden surrounds the house which is great for kids to play in. If you have space you may also want to bring bikes. Smaller children can use them in the garden and on the lane and for adults/older children you will find the local roads very quiet. You will find a selection of games, books and DVDs at the house.
Accessibility
The property has not been specifically adapted for visitors with mobility problems but there is a ground floor bedroom, shower room and wc. There are no steps to the front door and the garden has level access via the patio doors. The basement area can be reached via a slope from the driveway, as an alternative to the internal stone staircase.
Outside
The house has a beautiful large garden with lots of trees, lawn and shrubs. There is a large area of decking, ideal for sitting out on the sunbeds provided, or for 'alfresco' eating and drinking -we have provided 6 sunbeds with cushions, 8 garden chairs and an outside table. There is also a barbecue available. The property is situated at the end of a private lane (access shared with only 1 other house) so is very safe for children to play outside. There is plenty of safe and secure parking space within the grounds. The property is wonderfully quiet and calm, but not at all isolated, as the hamlet consists of around 20 houses. Part of the garden is at the front of the house and overlooks a local farmer's fields. There are often sheep in the field next door and wild rabbits in the garden.
Coast/Beach
The wonderfully unspoilt coastline is just a short drive away - less than 10 minutes. There are long sandy beaches, small coves and rocky inlets. Great coastal walks are also right on your doorstep. The area is known locally as "Cornouaille" for a good reason, as it shares many characteristics of the lovely Cornish coastline of South West England.
Golf
There are 2 good local courses (within a radius of 12km from Concarneau) including a beautiful links course designed by Fred Hawtree. Other courses can be found a little further away.
Travel
Ryanair do not currently fly to Brest (from March 2011). The nearest airport is now Dinard (by Ryanair from Stansted & East Midlands Airports). Roscoff is the closest channel port at around 90 minutes drive away with St Malo 2.5 hrs drive away. The main provider of ferry services to these ports is Brittany Ferries. The drive from the Channel Tunnel takes around 6.5 hours and is mostly on motorways (toll fees around 25 euros each way). Please note you will need to have a car during your stay.
Distances
The nearest village (Tregunc) has most facilities you will need and is 3km away.
Concarneau, with its old walled citadel, and many bars and restaurants, is 7km away.
Pont Aven - a beautiful riverside town on the 'artists trail' is 10km away.
Quimper, with its medieval Cathedral and buildings is 35km away.
Benodet is an attractive seaside town located 28km away and boasts a Casino as well as the usual bars and restaurants.
Further details
Tregunc, the nearest town, has a range of food shops (boulangerie, small supermarket; charcuterie; takeaway crepes; takeaway pizza/kebab shop). There is also a pharmacy, hairdresser, tabac and a few bars/restaurants. A market is held in the town square on Wednesday mornings, selling mostly local produce.
Within 10km of the house there are a selection of large supermarkets - Casino, Leclerc, Intermarche. There are also a number of shopping 'zones' with retailers selling, amongst other things, clothes, shoes and sports items. You will also find a 'Cave au Vin'.
Concarneau holds an open air market on Monday and Friday mornings and has an indoor food market open each morning. The walled citadel in Concarneau - the Ville Close - contains lots of shops, restaurants and the child friendly museum of the sea.
The town of Quimper has an imposing medieval Cathedral and lots of brightly painted half timbered buildings. There are lots of speciality shops as well as some French chain stores.
You can take advantage of the proximity to the sea by walking along one of the coastal footpaths, or by booking a boat trip at one of the tourist offices (in Tregunc or Concarneau) or direct from the boats on the seafront.
Brittany is also famous for the number of menhirs, or standing stones, scattered across the landscape. One of the most dramatic locations to see these is Carnac, with over a mile of megalithic stones standing in rows.
Locally there are two municipal indoor swimming pools or you can buy a day pass to use the facilities at one of the many campsites in the area.
And finally, everywhere you go you'll find outlets selling the local speciality of crepes, both savoury and sweet.
These are just a sample of the holiday highlights to be found in the area. You will find more details of addresses and opening times in the information pack at the house. We have also recommended some of the restaurants we've really enjoyed, but of course there are lots we haven't tried yet.
Booking notes
We require a deposit of £100, or 10% whichever is the higher, on confirmation of your booking. The balance is due 6 weeks before the holiday commences. At the same time we will require a returnable £150 security deposit in case of damage.
Owner profile
On holiday with our children, in Brittany
About the owner
The house is owned by my husband and myself. We travel to the house in Brittany as often as work commitments allow and our 2 grown up children and our friends have also enjoyed holidays there. We are hoping to retire to France in a few years time, credit crunch allowing!
Year purchased: 2008
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Brittany was a favourite holiday destination when our children were younger and in those days we would fill the car and roof box to the brim and stay in one of the many campsites in the area. In those days we stayed in tents or mobile homes and it's great to now be able to visit the area we love but with the convenience of our own washing machine, dishwasher and a choice of bathrooms. The location of the house is quiet and relaxing but still only 10 minutes from the coast and restaurants, shops and bars. We have found the people in this area to be really friendly and willing to help, especially if you try to speak a bit of French.
Unique benefits of the property
We have tried to make the house a 'home from home' and think it is very well equipped and comfortable. Visitors will find sports equipment, DVDs and books, as well as WiFi access for those who want to keep in touch with home, or need to keep in touch with work. There is a second TV and DVD player in one of the bedrooms, which we think is ideal for children to use, leaving the lounge for Mum and Dad.
