The farmhouse cottage, La Roussette was refurbished to a high standard by local craftsmen. Within the exposed stone walls, large windows and original beams are a large double bedroom, well equipped kitchen, bathroom with bath and shower and a spacious sitting room with log burner. Outside you will find our summer kitchen, barbecue, extensive gardens, a walnut grove, fruit trees and the all important swimming pool, complete with sun loungers and lawn. It is a fantastic hideaway for couples or friends but regrettably we do not accept children.

The cottage is not suited to wheelchairs. The property is on one level so there are only a few steps at the entrance and in the gardens.

Further details
Many of the local hamlets and villages date back to the 12th and 13th centuries and a stroll around them can be like a trip through time. With a medieval history littered with conflict between landowners, barons and the French aristocracy, there are many impressive chateaux to be seen - some are grand houses with wonderful gardens whilst others are imposing fortifications with commanding views over the river valleys. For more history and culture there are several nearby museums exhibiting everything from medieval artifacts to local arts and crafts. If you would rather spend your time in nature then local bird watching, fishing and long riverside walks are all popular attractions.
With adventure in mind, bikes from road-friendly shoppers to mud-hopping mountain bikes can be hired locally. Canoeing is a great way to get into the outdoors whilst never being far from a refreshing dip in the river. Horse riding can offer an original viewpoint on the landscape whilst other attractions include quad biking, tennis, petanque and even a ride in a hot air balloon.

About the owner
Hello, we're Gordon and Mary, owners of La Fauvette - a lovely little retreat in the hamlet of Vialegondou in the Dordogne region of France. We have lived here for several years in the company of our friendly black Labrador and eight chickens, since taking early retirement from the Royal Navy. We thoroughly enjoy the peace of our "escape to the country" reminiscent of the best parts of Dorset, Somerset and South Devon, without the crowds and with much better weather. La Rousette is an independent cottage which shares our garden and swimming pool. It is ideal for adult groups of up to 3.

We love living here because it is close enough to the local towns to head out for some food and culture, but far enough to feel like our own little piece of paradise.

The cottage is totally independent and whilst we are on hand to advise on local walks, sights and attractions, you'll be free to relax as you wish.
