La Maison Des Sources is set at the centre of the typical French village of St. Severin in the southern Charente. The main part of the house dates from before the French Revolution, and was probably built around 1750. Originally it was the village farm and provided fare for the chateau and inhabitants of St. Severin. Outside, at the back of the house, is a pretty enclosed courtyard. The courtyard is planted with lavenders, herbs and colourful flowers. Just the place to relax for afternoon tea or with that evening aperitif.

Changeover day
Change over day is Saturday. House available from 3pm and must be vacated by 10am.

Notes on accommodation
May not be suitable for young children although a cot is available. All bedrooms have double beds.
Accessibility
The ground floor bedroom and shower room are suitable for those who have problems with stairs but the property is not suitable for wheelchairs.
Outside
In the courtyard there is a BBQ and 2 tables with seating for 6 each. Loungers are provided.
Coast/Beach
The coast around the Royan area with it's lovely beaches and safe bathing is about 2 hours away. Open air Lido’s can be found at Riberac, Vertillac and Montmoreau. There are also the ever popular riverside Beaches at Aubeterre and St. Aulaye. These are very child friendly and provide good swimming, restaurants and activities.
Golf
Le Manoir de Longeveau Golf Centre 5km has a good 9 hole course if you are interested in playing golf.

Local walking trips can be arranged if required.
Travel
The nearest air ports are at Angouleme and Bergerac. Both about 1 hour away. Bordeaux, Poitiers and Limoges Airports are under 2 hours away. Car hire is available at all these airports. To gain the most from your holiday car hire is essential. If you are travelling from Channel Tunnel or Calais ferry port please allow 8 hours for your journey.
Distances
Places Of Interest: Aubeterre 7km. Riberac 12km. Brantome 30km. Angouleme 40km. Cognac, St. Emilion, Perigueux, Bergerac, Libourne, Bordeaux, Saintes all about 1.5 hours Royan is the nearest coast resort, about 2 hours away. All these are within easy reach and make an enjoyable and interesting day out.
Further details
There are tennis courts and a boulle court at the small football stadium. The Hotel de La Paix, at the top of the main street, offers the use of their pretty swimming pool for a small fee. Bicycles are available for hire at the Mini Golf on the edge of the village.
Booking notes
Rental prices. The price quoted is for one weeks booking for 6 persons sharing maximum (in high season from mid June to mid September). Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday. A deposit payment of £200 per week is required to secure your booking. This is to be paid by sterling cheque and to be received within 7 days. Final payment is to be received 6 weeks before your holiday commences. Any bookings made within 6 weeks of your holiday must be paid in full.

About the owner
Rick and Elaine have lived in France for 7 years now. Prior to that we had a holiday home here for 5 years. We fell in love with the Southern Charente area following a visit in 1999 to check out the housing market here. Within 3 days we had put in an offer on an old stone property.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We felt immediately at home here as it reminded us so much of the South Downs in Sussex.Both retiring in 2004, Rick after 29 years in West Sussex Fire Brigade and Elaine after 20 years running our Motorcycle Training business in Crawley, we moved to France permanently. La Maison des Sources was bought 5 years ago as a project and brought back to life over the next 2 years.
Unique benefits of the property
La Maison des Sources is situated in the village of St. Severin. This means that all your day to day requirements are within walking distance. Not always the case with some of the more remote properties. St. Severin is located midway between Aubeterre and Riberac, both about 10 minutes drive away. The house offers easy access to some of the most beautiful places in South West France.
