In Cathar country in the village of Cailla, you will find the house. The village is small and is perched on a ridge between tributary valleys in the lower hills of the Pyrenees. It affords superb panoramic views, peace and tranquility, if you wish. Both the Mediterranean coast and the Pyrenean skiing resorts are within an hours drive of the village. Andorra is about 1.5 hours away. The mysterious hill-top village of Rennes-le-Château is only a short drive away. In the nearby villages of Axat and Quillan you can find open-air swimming pools (summer months) and tennis courts. Roc Aqua in Cailla and the La Forge in Quillan offers canoeing, rafting, rock-climbing, canyoning, rambling, mountain biking and horse-riding are excellent with a wide range of marked paths through spectacular scenery. In Quillan you will find shops, restaurants, cafes and markets. In the village of Cailla you can go hiking with donkeys.

Prices are for the property per week in euros. It includes electricity and water, bed linen and towels.
Changeover day
Rental is from Saturday to Saturday. Check-in 4pm, check-out 11am, however, we will make every effort to accommodate your travel needs.

Towels and bedlinen are included in the price. Good for those who wants to travel light. If you don't want to clean the house yourself after your stay, no problem we take care of it for you for an additional cost of 60 euros. |

Notes on accommodation
There is open wireless internet access to use in the village. It works most of the times. Electric heaters are provided in all rooms. Parking (free of charge) is outside the house for one car. If you have two cars there is a parking spot just outside the village for the second car.
Accessibility
The house and the garden is not suitable for a wheelchair or for people with mobility problems.
Outside
Back of the house, can you find the terrace and the garden with a magnificent view of Pyrenees. The terrace has a parasol, barbecue, table and chairs for outside dining. Please note that the garden falls away steeply, requiring children to be supervised.
Coast/Beach
The beaches of the Mediterranean are 1 hour drive away by good roads. Take your pick from sandy or rocky, beaches or quiet coves, France or Spain, all are near. Or why not try to bathe in one of the nearby lakes and river pools with clear mountain water.
Golf
Golf can be found near Carcassonne, about 50 minutes away and in Perpignan also 50 minutes away.
Skiing
The ski resorts of the Pyrenees are only 1 to 1.5 hours away and are not only world class, but uncrowded.
Special interest holidays
In the Cathar country, between Perpignan and Toulouse, there are impressive fortresses perched on rocky crests, deep gorges, the waterfalls of the upper valley of the River Aude. The medieval city of Carcassonne has 3 kilometres of ramparts and 50 towers.
The Canal du Midi, an 18th century engineering masterpiece, links the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea. The sunny vineyards of the Corbières and the Minervois, the sparkling Blanquette de Limoux, the forests of the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noire and the traditional festivities of the Limoux Carnival make the region a rich and unique place to visit or to live in, always with the legacy of Catharism.
Cailla situated in the heart of the Cathar country is an ideal centre to visit the Cathar castles of Puylaurens and Puivert as well as all the natural features of the area. Both the Mediterranean coast and the Pyrenean skiing resorts are within an hour's drive of the town. Andorra is about 1.5 hours away.
Travel
Cailla is easily accessible from a number of airports, including Carcassonne, Perpignan, Toulouse, Beziers, Montpellier, Girona (Barcelona), to which a number of low cost airlines fly. Car hire is available from these airports.
Ryanair fly from Stansted, Liverpool, Dublin, Cork, Glasgow, Leeds and East Midlands airports to Carcassonne, which is situated only 50 minutes from Cailla. BA and Easy Jet fly to Toulouse, a 2 hours drive to Cailla.

There are supermarkets and restaurants in Quillan. In Axat and Quillan you can find an outdoor public swimming pool.
Booking notes
All bookings are to be accompanied by a 20% deposit with final payment due 8 weeks before rental. Payment in euros.
Included in the rent are electricity, water and logs for the fire (during winter season).

Just wanted to take a few moments to tell you how much we enjoyed our stay in France. Your house was fabulous - just what we needed and a very comfortable and relaxing place for a holiday. We loved the views and had many relaxing meals on the terrace!!
There was so much to do and we covered many miles up into the mountains and down to the coast. The views from the castle at Puilauren were spectacular and well worth the climb! Thank you for the wine on our arrival - it was much appreciated. Thank you once again.

About the owner
I live in Sweden with my husband. We have 3 grown-up children and 2 grandchildren. My husband and I both work in Norway at the electrical car company Think, but spend most of our holidays in France, where we have made many friends and have really fallen in love with the country.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
I have a huge interest in history and the Cathar area, has so much of it, that it takes my breath away. When I got the opportunity to buy the house, which I by the way fell in love with on the spot, there was nothing stop me. After a day with activities, I take a good book, something to eat and a glass of local wine out on the terrace. The sun sets over the red rock (Roques Rouge)... well what more can I say.
Unique benefits of the property
It is close to everything, beaches (60km away), mountains (just outside the house), local wine (there are so many vineyards, that you will lose count), mysterious Rennes le Chateau (is there a treasure or not?).
