Coast/Beach
The best beaches are 35-40 minutes away. Our favourite is Carrolles which is clean and safe with lifeguards. The beaches are all sand with a gradual slope into the sea. There are toilets available, car parking and several eating places on the sea front.
Travel
If you wish to travel with Brittany Ferries, we can probably get you a 10% discount. Ports: St Malo is under one hour away. Caen is under two hours away. Cherbourg is Two and a half hours away. Le Havre is three hours away. Dieppe is four hours away. Use of a car is highly recommended. The nearest airport is Dinard just over an hour away.
Distances
Mont St Michel is a must and is under 45 minutes away.
The Brittany coastline is within one hour and its rugged grandeur is a dramatic contrast to the Normandy beaches. The Granite Rose Coast is particularly spectacular with its weather eroded stone shapes.
Mont St Michel is a must but needs to be visited early in the morning before the crowds arrive.
The D Day landing beaches from World War 2,the Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches and the famous Bayeux tapestry are all 90mins away.
Further details
St James has doctors, dentists, hospital, bank, supermarkets, bars & restaurants. Our favourite eating places within easy walking distance include "Le Lion D'or" & "Hotel Normandie". Children are made welcome and we heartily recommend both.
On Mondays it is market day in St James. Starts early in the morning and packs up around midday. Hot food is available.
There is a tourist office in the town.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We have holidayed as a family for several years in France, & always in the Normandy area. When we decided to buy our own property we thought the location of being on the Normandy/Brittany border gave scope for exploring both regions. The quiet, excellently maintained roads are a pleasure to drive on and make easy access to the many places of interest. The proximity of Mont St Michel (a must for anyone who has not visited before) was also attractive.
Unique benefits of the property
Our property is so situated that it is not that far away to enjoy a weekend away but far enough to make you appreciate that you somewhere different.
We have always endeavoured to make the gite a "Home from Home" and consequently it is a pleasure to arrive and appreciate the lovely setting, comfortable furniture and the standard and quantity of the equipment.
The proximity of the town centre, only a short stroll away is extremely convenient especially when breakfast comes around and we need the freshest baguettes, rolls and croissants!
We have also found our neighbours to be friendly and we are always made to feel welcome in the shops and restaurants.
