Set in its own 84 acre estate, bordered by the river Palais; its outbuildings have been beautifully restored and offer everything needed for a fantastic family holiday. Each gite is fully equipped, has modern facilities & its own private outside terraced area; barbecues are available. There is a large shared swimming pool with sun loungers. We have a games room & playing field; bicycles are available. We offer Vegetarian meals. Weddings & functions welcomed - we can sleep up to 40 people. Secure Parking. Airports - 1 hr drive to Bordeaux, 1.5 hrs to Bergerac, 2 hrs to Limoges & 2.5 hrs to La Rochelle. By road we are not far from the N10. There are plenty of places nearby to visit, including Bordeaux, St Emilion (beautiful wine producing centre), Aubeterre (voted one of the prettiest villages in France) and Cognac - please see our website for more details. Activities nearby include golf, canoeing, jet-skiiing, horse riding, wine tasting, swimming, walking, quad biking and go-carting.

Notes on prices
Prices in euros, ask us for sterling rates. For long lets, groups or combination bookings, ask us for prices. Bed & breakfast: twin & double rooms (1 or 2 guests) with private bathrooms : 60 euros inc breakfast. Family suites (double room + communicating bedroom and private shower room): for family of 5 - 105 euros, for family of 4 - 90 euros, for family of 3 - 75 euros. Please ask about discounts. 4 course evening meals: 17 euros, 10 euros (children).
Changeover day
In July and August changeover days are strictly Saturdays only. We are happy to be more flexible in other months, subject to availability. Having B&B rooms helps us be flexible with bookings. Arrival time: 4pm. Departure time: 10am.

Notes on accommodation
The site is child-friendly. There is ample cupboard and drawer space. We also provide some cleaning materials, washing lines, ironing boards and irons. Cots and high chairs are available on request. We provide all bed linen and towels. We provide a starter food pack. Guests have access to our games room, playing field, collection of board games, DVDs and our library. Guests are welcome to eat in our main house dining rooms where we serve tasty vegetarian food. We have free wifi access in some public rooms. We offer advice on activities available and places to visit, and will help with activity and restaurant reservations if required.
Our Mongolian Yurt is available for functions and parties. It will seat up to 70 people. We can offer vegetarian catering or can recommend non-vegetarian caterers. We are happy to discuss exclusive use of the site for functions. We can provide sleeping accommodation for up to 40 people.
Accessibility
Each of the gites has a double bedroom and bath or shower room and W/C on the ground floor, so they would be suitable for people with mobility problems. However the facilities are not yet fully accessible to wheelchair users. We are happy to discuss any particular requirements and will do our best to help.
Outside
Each Gite has its own private terrace area with dining furniture. Barbecues are available on request. There is a 6x12m saltwater swimming pool, which is shared with the gites and main house guests. Sun loungers are provided. There are swings, a playing field for football, cricket, croquet, badminton etc. We have a games room with table tennis table, a pool table & loads of board games. We can loan bicycles to guests subject to availability. It is a great place for families to stay & play or relax.
The estate comprises gardens, pasture and woodland of pine, oak and chestnut. It has lovely walks and there are picnic areas in the grounds. The river Palais forms one of the boundaries and guests are welcome to roam along its banks.
There is an abundance of wildlife which will be of interest to nature lovers and bird watchers.
Nearby is Beau Vallon, a swimming and boating lake with a sandy beach and a cafe.
Within 15 minutes is the town of Chalais with it's huge weekly market.
Coast/Beach
We are about one hour's drive from the Atlantic beaches (nearer to the estuary). Five minutes drive or 30 minutes walk away, Beau-Vallon is a beautiful recreational lake for swimming and boating, with sandy beaches, a children's playground and paddling area, and cafe restaurant.
Golf
There is a 9 hole golf course at Montendre, within a half hour drive, and one at Aubeterre sur Dronne, within 45 minutes drive. We are happy to provide full details on request.
Special interest holidays
We are not far from a Formula 3 race and karting track (motorcycles too) which offers many possibilities.
We can arrange horse riding.
We can provide vegetarian cookery courses and language courses on request. Keith is a qualified language teacher and vegetarian chef.
We can also organise on-site wine tastings and we organise visits to local chateaux every week.
We can cater for birthdays, anniversaries and wedding parties. We have contacts with a variety of local catering companies (we don't insist on vegetarian food!). We are both very experienced event organisers, and can arrange a wide range of events, working within a budget.
Travel
We are one hour's drive from Bordeaux, and Angoulθme airports, one and a half hours from Bergerac, two hours from Limoges airport, and about two and a half hours from La Rochelle airport.
We are about 9 hour's drive from Calais and about six hours from Le Havre and Caen. Car hire / use of car is recommended.
Distances
Montguyon (nearest small town, banks & shops) - 5 mins drive. Chalais is a market town 15 mins away with good restaurants, an English cafe / bookshop and nearby the Paradou water park. Aubeterre sur Dronne is about 45 mins drive. Voted one of the prettiest villages in France it is famous for its underground monolithic church, and its beaches / kayaking on the river Dronne. Within an hour are Bordeaux, St Emilion and Cognac and we can arrange visits to vineyards and distilleries for tastings.
Further details
There is a large supermarket in Montguyon 5 minutes drive away. In Montguyon there are also bars, restaurants, banks, bakers and other shops. There are lovely traditional markets to visit in Chalais, Montendre and Riberac. In Jonzac there is a popular aquatic centre. We provide full details of local places of interest and restaurants. We are happy to make reservations for you if you are not confident speaking French.
Booking notes
Bookings can be made by using facilties on this site, or by emailing us. We will send you a booking form. Guests should return this form, along with a 30% non-refundable deposit within two weeks. The balance of the rental is payable no less than 8 weeks prior to your visit. Bookings made within 8 weeks of the rental period will be asked to pay in full with the booking form. We currently accept euros and sterling - please ask us for a sterling rate.

Keith and John
About the owner
Keith Robinson and John Botteley are both former theatre directors. Until 2008 Keith was the Artistic Director of Twisting Yarn Theatre. He is also a linguist and has worked as a secondary school language teacher and for the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg. He speaks English, French, Spanish and some German and Dutch. He is also an accomplished vegetarian chef. Until autumn 2009 John was Theatre Director of the Grand Opera House in Belfast. Previously he was Head of Theatres, Arts and Festivals for Bradford Council. He has also run theatres and concert halls in Wolverhampton and Basingstoke. In the 1970s John was an entertainments officer for the Royal Viking cruise ship line. We are committed to excellent customer service.

Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
Le Logis des Quatre Puits is a beautiful house parts of which date back to the 15 century. It is set in its own estate of 84 acres of pasture and woodland of oak, pine and chestnut. The river Palais borders the estate.
It was beautifully restored by the previous owners and now provides three gites and five bed and breakfast rooms. A former deer farm, we have already met some of the deer which still live in the woods. Having spent two years looking for a suitable property, we both knew that this was the one as soon as we arrived. It has wonderful character in a tranquil rural location. It is close enough to the local shops to be convenient, whilst being far enough off the beaten track to be very peaceful - however Ikea is only 45 mins away!
Unique benefits of the property
Le Logis des Quatre Puits has fully equipped gites including bedlinen and towels. We have a saltwater pool, with a terrace with sun loungers and sun shades. Each gite has its own private terraced area so that guests can eat outside and enjoy the long summer evenings. Barbecues are available on request. There is a level field for ball games, and a croquet green. We also have a table tennis table and loads of board games. We have some bicycles we are happy to loan to guests. Guests are welcome to walk through the estate, by the river and through the woodland. Each gite has a television with English programmes. We can offer vegetarian evening meals by prior arrangement, but obviously guests can cook whatever they want in the gite.
