he apartment is exceptionally spacious (124 m2 The building was originally the ‘belle époque’ Grand Hotel and has undergone a significant renovation. It is on the ground floor and is fitted to a high standard but also has a very relaxed feel. Energetic children love the freedom. Ideal for two families or groups who like space. One comment in the visitor’s book: we had ‘definitely understated’ the appeal of the apartment. 'spacious, comfy, convenient, well equipped and glorious views.'
The apartment is just 500yards from the ‘tramway Mt Blanc’ to the slopes of Les Houches part of the Chamonix circuit. (non skiers can join you for a day out) It is about 17 mins walk to the main Lift … but why do that? The ski bus shuttles every 15 mins and stops just outside the apartment building. The ski room is just inside the main entrance – so just get your boots, pick up your skis and off! Please resist walking through the main hall in ski boots, our resident concierge is proud of the parquet!

Notes on accommodation
The apartment is ideal for large groups and for families with children. There is plenty of areas for those who like their own 'space' ie. TV or Computer. The hallway is wide and large as is the veranda and doubles as a spacious play area for children. There is only one bathroom but the hot water system is good (tank is larger than average) and is adequate to cope with large groups. There is a resident concierge, who will assist in an emergency, but our property service is the first point of contact for any queries. Our property manager is english speaking (he is English), lives in the area and has a great deal of local knowledge. We have been told that the beds are 'really comfy' and the apartment 'warm and relaxing'.
Accessibility
The apartment is ground floor. With normal to large size doors. There are 2/3 steps up to the apartment building itself with no ramp.
Outside
There is a garden which is laid to lawn and is a suitable play area
for children. There is a small enclosed balcony to have a coffee. The larger balcony has garden furniture and it would be possible to seat 11 here to dine or to use a small barbeque. Good play area for small children possibly not unsupervised.
Coast/Beach
There is a lake at Le Fayet which has a small beach and bathing facilities. Lake Geneva (45 mins by car) has a large beach at Excenevex with very shallow and safe bathing for children. A good day out and combine it with one of the old medieval villages on the edge of the Lake. There is a wonderful non commercial leisure park in the mountains at Les Contamines with swimming, biking, riding, rock climbing, abseiling (you name it!)
Golf
There are 2 championship golf courses close by, Megeve (15 mins) and Chamonix (25 mins). In addition there are courses on Lake Geneva a famous one at Evian (45 mins), Morzine (45 mins), Flaine (45 mins) and the beautiful town of Annecy (1 hour).
Skiing
The Mont Blanc area is one of the most scenic and famous of all the ski areas of France. There is a huge ski area accessed from the main gondola at St Gervais, about 10 mins walk or 5 mins on the shuttle which stops immediately outside the apartment. The ski area includes the savoyard village of Saint Nicolas and links with the sophisticated resort of Megeve with its extensive well groomed pistes where you can mix with the rich and famous. The skipass includes also the Combloux area (a mini Canada) where you can ski through the beautiful tree lined runs and also Les Contamines and Les Houches. Contamines is a real contrast, being very high, no trees, but an excellent snow record, or take the rack railway (where they start the climb to the summit) up to the slopes of Les Houches part of the Chmonix complex - with Mont Blanc forming a breathtaking backdrop. If you want even variety or an adrenalin rush there is Chamonix(25 min), Flaine(45 mins) Morzine (45 mins) and many smaller resorts.
Travel
70km from Geneva airport. 8 hours from Calais. Car not essential but recommended for visits.
Distances
Chamonix 25 mins by car or train (lovely trip).
Courmayeur and Italy are one hour. Or you could take the cable car over the Vallée Blanche which takes you across the range from the summit of the Aiguille du Midi and into Italy acroos a valley of eternal snow. Fantastic!
Megeve is chocolate box pretty and its mouthwatering restaurants and designer shops are worth a visit. Annecy is a town with a medieval 'heart' its lake flows right into the centre. It is accessible by a good train link.
Further details
Plenty of high quality restaurants locally and Michelin starred in Megeve. Some good value eateries in St Gervais a full list is in the apartment. There is a traditional french market on Thursdays selling the traditional Savoyard fare, delicious local cheeses and wines, local veg for you to create your own haute cuisine!

Owner profile
About the owner
After running a successful insurance brokerage for some 30 years, we decided to 'semi-retire'. Our lifelong love of skiing, took us to this beautiful area which seem to combine all we needed.
Plenty of 'family skiing' for our new grandchildren, varied runs in St Gervais and St Nicolas, lovely restaurants (particularly in Megeve- if a bit pricey). Challenging stuff for the nephews in Chamonix, Flaine etc.
In Summer, plenty of local interest plus trips to elegant Annecy, Lyons, and to Italy, Switzerland and the South coast.
We now spend 4/5 weeks skiing and then a couple of months in Summer improving our french, relaxing and walking in the mountains with friends.
Perfect!!

Unique benefits of the property
Apartment Nicole is 'a holiday experience in itself' You will see this comment in the visitors book. Situated in a tranquil part of the town with lovely views. Awake to birdsong in the morning and some beautiful sunsets over the mountains in the evening.
The apartment is very near (300 metres) from the rack railway station, up to the slopes of Les Houches. This is good walking territory and excellent skiing in winter. (Alpine coupe du monde on the Kandahar slope this winter. The main ski area is 15 mins walk across town. The ski shuttle stops outside the building (it starts at the little station) - and shuttles round every 15 mins -easy! Also operates in Summer on a slightly less frequent basis. And is free!
There is a resident oncierge in the building and it has its own lawned garden.
