La Petite Maison Des Acacias has an area of 94 square meters and was refurbished to a high standard in early 2009. It is located behind the main house, in its own private garden, where seating areas are provided together with a barbecue. In 2009 we were awarded 2 stars by the Entre deux Mers tourist office. St Macaire dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. It has a range of shops, restaurants and two bars. During fairly recent years many of the ancient buildings and alleyways have been sympathetically restored. Opposite, across the river Garonne, is the town of Langon which is the centre for the graves wine industry. Here you will find a large range of shops and supermarkets. Wine, of course, is the main industry in this region with Sauternes, St Emilion and the Medoc, plus many others, within easy reach. See our own web site at www.bordeauxescape.co.uk.

The Medieval restaurant has a brilliant ambiance and comes higly recommended. Thanks for loan of bikes, they were very usefulfor getting to shops and exploring the local area.

Such a great location, the perfect starting point for many interesting visits. The pool has had much use and the lasting memory for our 2 boys will undoubtedly be Delilah (dog)! Not to forget the funny looking cat!
Owner profile
taken on a recent visit to Collioure.
About the owner
My name is Susan Lant and with my husband, David live on the outskirts of the medieval town of St Macaire. We have lived here for 7 years and have spent that time renovating the house which dates from 1880. David spent the winter of 08/09 restoring the gite which had formally been the house of the nursery foreman, the garden having been a tree nursery. We spend a large amount time working in the garden which was a wilderness when we moved in. We have 2 dogs and a cat without a tail as well as 13 grandchildren who visit us from time to time but not all together.
Year purchased: 2002
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We decided upon SW France because it is one days drive from the north French ports. Gironde is a beautiful region, the air is clean and the chief industry is wine. We bought our first house in 1992, a 15th century town house but when my husband retired we decided to live here permanently and needed more space and bought our present house in 2002. It is large with a hectare of garden. St Macaire is a well preserved medieval town dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The "pace of life" is pleasantly slow, though, in the summer, the Marie are extremely active in promoting festive events etc. Ease of access is excellent - the French motorway system is only 2 kms away and Langon railway station,1 km. Bordeaux airport is 40 minutes and Bergerac, 75 minutes.
Unique benefits of the property
We enjoy the privacy of the garden and swimming in the pool. There is always plenty to do in the garden in the summer and in the house in winter. The gite is at the rear of our house with its own private garden and seating area, and apart from the pool which we share, retains its own privacy.
