Changeover day
Arrival days are Friday 27th July and Sunday 12th or 19th August 2012. Arrival should normally be after 4pm and departure before midday. If this is a problem for you we'll try to fit in with your needs.

Notes on accommodation
Shuttered, double-glazed, well-insulated house remains cool in summer. Fans in bedrooms. No smoking, please, inside the villa. The garden is totally enclosed with lockable gates; however, as the villa is our home for 48 weeks a year, equipped and furnished to a high standard and not toddler-proofed, it is not really suitable for guests with children under 5. The following items are provided: washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, hand soap, kitchen rolls, toilet paper, salt, pepper, herbs and spices and many other useful household condiments and consumables. A welcome pack (tea, coffee, milk, sugar, butter, wine, orange juice, baguette) will be waiting on your arrival. Additionally we can get in a little extra shopping for you, if you would find it helpful.
Accessibility
No special adaptations have been made but the villa is built on one level and the garden is flat.
Outside
Rocks and palms surround the swimming pool (9.5X4m) and lights set amongst the rocks make for a romantic outlook from the terrace. Modern saline filtration system minimizes use of chlorine. Solar-heated poolside shower. Pool can be seen from house and has an automatic security alarm which meets EC safety regulations. Summer kitchen (large stone BBQ and sink) adjacent to terrace, with dining area shaded by electrically operated awning. Garden table and armchairs for 6. 4 sun loungers and 2 reclining armchairs.
Coast/Beach
The long sandy beaches at Argeles (ideal for children) are 25 mins drive away. At a similar distance are the more rocky cove-type beaches around Collioure, which continue south to the Costa Brava (great for snorkelling and diving). There are 2 pretty lakes outside the neighbouring village (5 mins drive): one lake for swimming and picnics, with waterside bar/restaurant, boats for hire and adventure activities for youngsters, and the other lake dedicated to fishing and BBQs.

Further details
The friendly village of Maureillas has shops, chemist, PO, newsagent etc for all essentials, plus 2 bars and 2 restaurants. An even shorter walk from the villa brings you to the 'terrain de loisirs' where the village puts on public social events such as outdoor meals, dances and festivals at least once a week during the summer.
The nearby town of Ceret is a lively and cultural centre with bustling picturesque markets on Saturday morning and Tuesday evening. The Museum of Modern Art, founded by Picasso and housing a permanent collection of his works, is one of several art galleries in the town. There are many bars and restaurants and, throughout the summer, numerous musical, social and artistic events to be enjoyed.
4 or 5 large supermarkets are within a 6km radius and the city of Perpignan is a 25 minute drive away.
Booking notes
A 20% non-refundable deposit is required immediately to guarantee your booking. The 80% balance and a refundable deposit of £500 for damages/breakages/telephone usage is required 6 weeks before the start of your holiday. For their own protection guests should ensure that they have insurance which covers public liability.

About the owner
We are a couple in early retirement, ex-lecturers and practising musicians, who left Chester and our grown-up children to come and live here in Maureillas in 2004. We'd always appreciated the French way of life, but when we discovered this part of France in 2002 we fell in love with it and bought a small village house for holidays. Each time we had to go back to work in the UK we found it harder to leave the village, so after a year we decided to move here permanently. We sold up in Chester, sold the holiday house, found this gorgeous house we now live in and here we are, forever! Each summer we let our house out with Owners Direct and go camping nearby for a month. 2012 will be our seventh year and we've enjoyed 'lending' our home immensely, as have all our guests!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought this house because the location is just wonderful. Ours is the last house in the village, with only one delightful neighbour, so we still feel we 'belong' to the village whilst benefiting from the fabulous views all around us and the utter peace and tranquillity of the countryside.
