Notes on accommodation
This is a compact and cosy house with galley kitchen and spiral staircase. It is ideal for two adults and two children, or three adults. It will sleep four adults but you may have to duck your heads on the upper floor ceiling beams!
Accessibility
The house has a downstairs bedroom and bathroom but it would not be possible to use a wheelchair in the bathroom
Outside
The two houses are set in an acre of grounds, completely independent of one another and each house has its own garden. They have a patio, garden furniture and Weber barbecues.
Coast/Beach
The houses are 15 miles from the coastal resorts of Honfleur, Trouville and Deauville. Honfleur is perhaps the most famous resort on the beautiful Cote Fleurie with its yachting harbour, fishing port and quaint old streets. Deauville, a sophisticated and fashionable seaside town is popular with the Parisians. We particularly like the adjoining resort of Trouville with its Edwardian buildings and long sandy beach which is ideal for children.
Travel
We are 20 miles from the ferry at Le Havre and an hour from Ouistreham (Caen). The Channel Tunnel/Calais/Boulogne is three hours away by fast motorway. The nearest airport is Chas. de Gaulle in Paris. Cars can be hired at Bernay (20 mins).
Distances
The houses are situated in the centre of a triangle formed by the villages of Epaignes, Lieurey and Cormeilles, all approx 2 miles away. As well as the nearest beaches, the Normandy landing beaches, the Bayeux tapestry and Rouen are all accessible, taking about an hour to reach. There is a train service to Paris which takes an hour and a half. Monet's garden at Giverny is approximately just over an hour's drive.
Further details
With children in mind there are swimming pools in Pont Audemer (12 minutes) and Honfleur (20 minutes). There is a large lake at Pont-l'Eveque where you can swim, play on the little beach, take a boat out or fish. Further down the coast are other attractive resorts such as Cabourg and Houlgate. There is a Conservation Parc/Zoo (Cerza) where animals can be seen in their natural habitat at Ouilly-du-Rouley on the Cormeilles/Lisieux road. Locally - the small towns of Epaignes and Lieurey are equidistant from the houses. They both have a good bread shop, butcher, chemist and general store with a small weekly market. Pont Audemer, the nearest large town, has a medieval town centre and excellent twice-weekly markets. The smaller town of Cormeilles, some five minutes drive, is very pretty with a number of bars, restaurants, antique shops and food shops and supermarket. There is an excellent tour (in English) of the Calvados distillery. There is a small supermarket within three minutes drive on the D.27. There are some very interesting museums in the area. The Peace Museum (Musee de Paix) in Caen is exceptional and gives a very moving account of both World Wars. There are two very good war museums in Falaise and Bayeux; maritime museum in Honfleur and Fecamp and the Museum of Art in Trouville. Le Bec Hellouin, south of Pont Audemer, is a picturesque village, where you can wander round the abbey grounds. Paris can be reached by train from the station at Bernay which is 20 minutes drive to the south. The journey to Paris takes about an hour and a quarter. There are timetables at the house. It takes two and a quarter hours to drive to Disney Paris, or you can travel by train and metro. The historic city of Rouen is an hour away and offers a good day out - museums, markets, restaurants and shopping.

Guest comments
'We had a lovely holiday, thank you. We all fell in love with the house (Maison Verger) and its beautiful surroundings, including the frogs in the nearby pond'.
'We had a lovely time at La Petite Grange and there was a great sense of provision and hospitality even though you weren't there! We enjoyed some cosy fires when the weather turned chilly in the evenings. At the beginning of the week, the thermometer on the patio touched 40 degrees, a real sun trap.'
Owner profile
About the owner
Our pocket of Normandy - inland from Honfleur and Trouville - is pasture land, valleys, cow-filled fields and orchards. Over the years we have improved the farmhouse, added a barn conversion on adjoining land and two years ago we bought La Vallée, our third house, two minutes away from the others. It has wonderful views over a tranquil valley, no-one seems to pass by. We dabbled in French antiques over the years, enjoying furnishing the houses as they should be but also, as keen cooks, made sure that they were well equipped.
Year purchased: 1980's
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought our main house, Maison Verger, 24 years ago when there were very few English people and stayed because it was like Britain in the 1950s, slower with personal service and a friendly, courteous reception from the French. We are still there because it has remained pretty much the same and we still appreciate the fine food, the markets, medieval towns and the friends we have made.
Unique benefits of the property
Whether you want to travel and explore the area, or simply sit in the garden and watch the fading sun, the beauty of Normandy never fails to impress. The cows in the next field, looking as though they have just walked of a Camembert box, are the result of the lush, green landscape that results in wonderful cream and delicious cheeses. Markets to visit and restaurants to indulge. An experience that remains long in the mind after the holiday is over.
