Le cottage has 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4 comfortably. There is a double sofa bed in the sitting room to accommodate an extra 2 people, if required. The gite is in a tranquil setting with glorious views. It is decorated in a classic french country style and has a wealth of period features. Fully equipped and very homely. The gite is detached from the main house allowing for ample privacy.

Changeover day
Changeovers are on a Saturday. Check-out time is 10am in order for us to clean the gites to a high standard ready for the next guests. Earliest check-in time is 4pm, unless by arrangement. Out of season or for short stays this may be flexible.

Notes on accommodation
A washing machine, iron and ironing board is provided. Cots, highchairs and other baby equipment can be supplied for a small charge.
Children will enjoy using the pool (shared with us although you will have priority) as well as table tennis, badminton and boules. We also have various indoor games. There is Satellite English TV/Video in Le Cottage. TV/DVD available on request. Selection of videos.
Accessibility
The gite is suitable for people with limited mobility or wheelchairs, although there are a few steps to the mezzanine and a few steps to the kitchen/diner (there is a flat, outside entrance to the kitchen). Please speak to us about specific issues and we will be happy to advise and accommodate where possible.
Outside
A separate outside dining space with garden furniture and BBQ. The 7m x 4m pool is in a lovely sunny spot with beautiful views and decked terrace. Guests will very rarely have to share the pool - we will leave it for your use unless invited. Depth is 1m30. Sunloungers are provided.
Coast/Beach
The lovely sandy river beach at Aubeterre is great for a relaxing swim. There is a bar/restaurant, toilets, diving board and raft to swim to. Here you can also hire canoes and kayaks. The nearest coastal beach is located at St George de Didonne, about 1hr 10 mins away. It's huge expanse of glorious sandy beach with long walk ways and cycle paths is our firm favourite! Royan and beaches of Bordeaux are a little further at 1hr 30 mins.
Golf
Longeveau golf course is about 5kms away offering a 9 hole course, restaurant, tennis courts and friendly bar with regular events. 18 hole courses can be found in Angoulême and Perigueux.
Travel
We are approximately 35 mins to Angoulême, its airport (serviced by budget airlines) is about 45 mins. Bergerac, Bordeaux and Limoges are between 1hr and 1hr 45 mins drive.
As we have a rural location, use of a car would be essential for exploring what the area has to offer. If you prefer not to drive whilst on holiday, we can arrange transfers to and from the airport.
Distances
We are on the borders of the Charente, and Dordogne, so ideally located to reach many places of interest. Aubeterre with beautiful central square, monolithic church, butchers, bakery, small supermarket, Sunday market, river beach is approx 5kms away. Perigueaux with cobbled streets, lovely market square and interesting shops is 40 mins drive, Riberac has a Friday market, shops, restaurants and supermarkets and is 20 mins away. Popular and stylish, Brantôme is approx 40 mins drive and is a must.
Further details
As well as nearby Aubeterre, our other local village offers mini supermarket/tabac, two restaurants and a bar and is approx 5kms. Meals in can be arranged for you, taking the worry out of cooking, washing up and driving home! Bikes can be hired locally; there are miles of well signposted tracks to explore!
Babysitting is easily arranged with an NNEB qualified, English speaking lady.

A deposit of GBP125 (non-refundable) is payable upon confirmation of your booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to your arrival date.

About the owner
We are a family of five, my husband, myself and our three children, 18, 15 and 10. We live quietly and discreetly on site, but not adjoining the properties. After having worked for years in the travel business and in customer services, we realise the importance of a personal service and attention to detail. This is our first year advertising our gites-we look forward to welcoming you to this interesting, beautiful part of France!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We decided to change our somewhat busy lives in South East England, for a more sedate, warmer life in South West France! We chose this particular area because of it's beautiful scenery-gentle rolling hills, sunflower fields and forests. The wildlife is amazing, the wine is pretty good and the locals very friendly! It's proximity to swimming lakes and rivers, as well as nearby Aubeterre clinched the deal! We are on a no through road, so there are no passing cars, yet within a few minutes you could be enjoying a bustling market, or quiet drink in a shady town square.
