Further details
Chateaux of the Loire are world famous in history, stories and for their outstanding architecture. We are ideally placed for visits to Usse - the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty, to Chinon - a fortress chateau with links to Joan of Arc and at Fontevraud the plantagenet tombs of Richard the Lionheart, Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine lie in the beautifully restored abbey.
Saumur, Montsoreau and Montreuil Bellay are within easy distance and are pretty towns to explore. More local is the fascinating troglodyte village of Louresse-Rochmenier.
The annual rose festival at Doue la Fontaine is held within the underground cave system. Troglo-dining can be experienced in local underground restaurants where you can try the regional speciality of mushrooms.
If gardening is of interest, you will be amazed by the variety of styles to be experienced; Villandry with its immense potager and box parterres, Maulevrier - a Japanese inspired garden and Chemille - displaying herbal and medicinal plants.
At Doue La Fontaine the very conservative minded zoo is set in old caves and boasts the biggest aviary in Europe.
As always in France the local markets are worth a visit whether to admire the colours and variety or to be tempted and buy. Good supermarkets are situated in Vihiers and Doue.
There are open-air pools to visit nearby, rivers and lakes to sit and picnic by. The landscape is perfect for cyclists, walkers and bird-watchers.
For lovers of good wine there is a signposted drive through the vineyards and many places to stop and sample the delights of the local production.

We require a 25% non-refundable deposit to secure the booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks before arrival. A security deposit of £100 cash is required on arrival. This will be returned to you within 2 weeks of your departure.

Owner profile
About the owner
After 35 years as an infant teacher I decided, with my partner Bill that it was time for a change. After many enjoyable holidays in France we decided to come and live here permanently. We fell in love with the Loire valley and have now been here for 4 years. We enjoy welcoming our visitors to Le Cerisier and doing what we can to make your holiday enjoyable. We look forward to meeting you!
Year purchased: 2007
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We looked at many houses but kept coming back to this one. We love the peace and quiet and rural location. Driving around here is a pleasure and journeys are easy and we can quickly get to towns for the shops and to woods for long walks with our wolfhound, Morse and cocker spaniel, Cassie. There is space to breath and live a relaxed lifestyle. We have made many friends both english and french and are enjoying our retirement to the full!
Unique benefits of the property
Le Cerisier is an easy drive from most of the ports and being south of the Loire enjoys good weather with lots of sunshine in the summer and early autumn.
It is a beautiful and peaceful location and yet is within easy reach of many attractions.
We are always available to help our guests in any way we can, but we also respect their privacy.
