An exceptional & beautifully decorated home on the river Orbieu in historic unspoilt Lagrasse. Two terraces overlook the iconic medieval stone bridge & the hills across the river. Watch the sun set while you have drinks, with dinner cooked on the plancha. The internal courtyard always stays cool & shady, even on the hottest summer days. Step out of the back door & go for a paddle in the river or step out of the front to find yourself in the heart of this special village. Parts of the house date back to medieval days. The cool colours of the ancient stone walls combine with the thoughtful renovation to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and the scent of pine, thyme and rosemary from the surrounding hills Lagrasse is officially one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is famous for its 8th Century Abbey and perfectly located to explore Cathar Castles, the Canal du Midi, the Citadel at Carcassonne, the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees & Spain.

As the river trickles by why not sit & drink your chilled glass of local wine on the terrace whilst watching the sun slowly setting over the hills opposite.....You might even strike lucky & spot the local heron or a Kingfisher swooping past & if you come at the right time of year, you can even be lulled to sleep by the mating calls of the local frogs - & we don't mean the human kind! We have created our Ramparts & Riverside Gite within the original rampart walls of this lovely listed village. It's a great spot whether you are 2 friends away on a break together or a couple wishing to "get away from it all" Terracotta floors combine with clean white washed walls with carefully chosen antique furniture, accessories & unique art. We have aimed to create a space in which you would feel comfortable & relaxed. There is a large double bed or 2 singles if preferred; a modern well equipped kitchen & dining space for 4 so you can invite other holiday makers you might meet while on your holiday. |

Notes on accommodation
We have a child's cot available for those traveling with a very young child.
Accessibility
The Ramparts and Riverside Gite is located on the ground floor whilst The Large Terrace apartment is on the first and second floors.
Outside
The house has recently been featured in both Homes & Gardens Magazine and BBC Homes and antiques.
To the rear of the house is the riverbank leading down to the river Orbieu which at this point is very shallow and therefore provides a safe place for paddling and fishing.
We have bicycles available you can borrow.
A little further up stream the river has a natural pebbly beach. During the summer months the river is dammed thereby creating a lovely swimming spot with a lifeguard provided during high season.
Coast/Beach
The Mediterranean and its long stretch of beautiful beaches are only 40 minutes drive away and there are many to choose from. We have a few favorites that are never crowded and always clean, even in the height of the summer. We can let you know these 'secret' spots upon your arrival.
Golf
There is a decent golf course at Carcassonne, about 40 minutes away.
Skiing
Ski resorts of the Pyrenees are about a 1 and a half to 2 hour drive away.
Special interest holidays
We can arrange wine tours and cookery classes and for a highly qualified personal fitness instructor during your stay. We are currently creating additional special interest holidays in 2010 - please enquire for details and dates etc.
Travel
Carcassonne is 40 minutes drive, Narbonne (TGV train station) also 40 minutes away and Perpignan and Beziers approximately 1 hour drive. All of the above mentioned airports are serviced by Ryan Air. The larger airports of Toulouse, Montpelier and Girona are about 90 minutes drive.
We do recommend hiring a car to get to the many sites of the area, however, it is possible to vacation in Lagrasse without a car - we are happy to arrange airport transfers for you, please enquire if interested.
Distances
Lagrasse is perfectly situated to explore this wonderful region. The Citie of Carcassonne is a scenic 45 minute drive. The beaches of the Med are about 45 minutes away.
Booking notes
We request a deposit of 30% to secure your booking. The balance is due 8 weeks before your arrival date. We also request a damages deposit which we refund shortly after your departure.

About the owner
We have lived in Lagrasse for 4 years now after initially falling for this beautiful village and area when out searching for a property with which to create our 'change of life' plan after living in London for many years.
Nicole is a former interior designer and stylist and Michael was a builder and gardener and has many years experience working in hospitality when living in America several years ago.
