Owner profile

The Nevill Family

About the owner
We moved to France in 2003 because, as a family, the opportunity arose and we had the chance to do something very different. We felt that if we didn't do it then, we never would and after that we would always be asking "What if?" So with next to no planning we sold our house in Britain and moved to France, not really knowing where we were going or what we were going to do - crazy really, but ignorance was bliss. Our journey would have made perfect television for any number of Channel 4 TV programmes -No Going Back, Grand Designs, Restoration Man! It has been quite an experience, but a very rewarding one and we are now very happily settled in the Ariege, having established a successful gite business, and most importantly, have an excellent way and quality of life.

Year purchased: 2004

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We live in France's best kept secret. The Ariege is not that well known, but it is France's hidden treasure. It is extraordinarily beautiful and peaceful and is very traditional old France where the quality of life is the top priority for most people. As a guest wrote in a our visitors book - "We have had the most idyllic week at Manzac - you have the perfect sanctuary here, unforgettable vistas, spacious interiors and great outdoor areas for our group to spread themselves around. It has been so refreshing to discover an interesting yet tourist-free area of France and sample a peaceful way of life in harmony with the teeming nature around us. We leave comfortably relaxed (and well fed!) Merci et à bientôt." Sums it up perfectly.

Unique benefits of the property
Manzac d'en Bas is set in truly beautiful countryside with stunning views. It is unbelievably peaceful and relaxing and while it appears to be relatively remote, it is in fact near essential amenities, (supermarkets) and lots of great things to see and do, and less than an hour from Toulouse, a really lovely city. Alternatively, it is the perfect place to relax and unwind, including next to the swimming pool. The gites are spacious and comfortable and have been renovated to a high standard providing a mixture of rustic charm and modern comforts. Please visit our website, for much information and feedback from people who have stayed here.
