La Tour is a completely independent wing of our lovely French home set on the edge of a tiny hamlet, less than 15 minutes from Bergerac Airport and surrounded by spectacular Dordogne countryside. Occupying a two story Tower, the gite provides idyllic accommodation for any couple, or single person, looking for peace, tranquillity, and privacy. The house, built in beautiful old stone with characteristic thick walls and beamed ceilings dates back to 1811. It nestles in just under 3 acres of flowing lawns, shrubs, fruit trees, conifers and an area of woodland - all complimented by stunning views. The location is ideal for easy exploration of the Dordogne’s many fascinating little bastide towns, or visiting local chateaus and vineyards to sample the famous wines. The beautiful city of Bordeaux, medieval Sarlat or St Emilion are a few of the wonderful 'day out' possibilities; with Eymet and Bergerac only a 20 minutes drive away - or, stay at home to enjoy the pool and entertaining wildlife.

Owner profile
Dorothy and Roger at their home in Le Petit Pey
About the owner
We met in 2003; each having previously spent several years on our own. A whirlwind romance culminated in a memorable and exciting wedding in the village church in May 2004. Our joint family of four adult offspring are all settled in their own life styles across England, with one having emigrated to Australia, so with retirement drawing nigh the idea of our own adventure and a change of life style had mutual appeal. Roger has a passion for photography and acquired his LRPS in 2008, the same year as Dorothy published her first story book (Hello Little Snail) for primary school children – both achieving life-long ambitions. We enjoy travel, music, theatre, fine foods and nice wines ~ and the latter two are a significant cultural part of the Dordogne!
Year purchased: 2009
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Our ideas developed into a preliminary visit to the Dordogne in April 2008 and we were smitten! We loved the climate, the pace of life, a noticeable reduction in traffic, and the wonderful rural character of the region. There are many bastide towns, like Eymet, each steeped in its own history having a variety of quaint buildings, tiny narrow streets, and a market square circumvented with arches leading to restaurants, patisseries, boutiques – so much to discover. Regular lively, colourful markets throng with people seeking a bargain and succumbing to the aromas of delicious local foods on offer. We can enjoy all this and then slip back into the peaceful haven of the vineyards surrounding Le Petit Pey, still with convenient easy access to essentials, yet relieved of modern world pressures.
Unique benefits of the property
Everyday since we moved here we have been entertained by an amazing variety of wildlife - squirrels, deer, hares, rabbits and birds; stunning views greet us every morning with each season draped in its own special array of colour and beauty. The fresh and clean air of the Dordogne region is very noticeable – a welcome change from 21st century pollution and yet everything we need is less than 25 minutes drive away. Guests to Les Tournesols will appreciate all of this and the seclusion of the property. Take a dip in the pool, relax in the sun or pick a shady spot in the garden to read or simply enjoy a glass of wine. Various local restaurants offer different ‘eating experiences’ or you can just dine ‘alfresco’ on your personal patio. The choices are many and the pleasure is all yours!
