Notes on accommodation
The property is ideal for families as the pool is close to the house and the garden is completely enclosed and private. It is also perfect for older children and teenagers who like to be a little independent as the village square (with shops, bars, pizza restaurant, chocolate museum and 3 restaurants) is within walking distance. Bikes can be hired in the village for rides in the stunning countryside. The house is cosy enough for one family or a couple (up to 8 can be accommodated in 4 bedrooms on the first floor) but with the addition of the top floor two or more families can be accommodated (up to a further 6/7 people).
Accessibility
This property has not been adapted for wheelchair users and all bedrooms are located on the first and second floors. It may be unsuitable for small babies and toddlers as there is an old staircase at one end of the house around which small children might need to be supervised. Small children should be supervised around the pool at all times.
Outside
A sunny terrace runs the length of the house with seating provided by 2 round Kettler tables with parasols and 8 chairs with cushions. A covered patio area overlooking the pool provides further seating with a large table and 8 wicker chairs, with an outdoor chandelier hanging overhead. There is an inbuilt sofa and cushions for relaxing. Tea lights can be lit and placed in spaces in the stone walls making it an enchanting place to sit and relax at night. A barbecue is provided for outdoor cooking. The private pool is approximately 11 x 5m and floodlit for night swimming. 6 sun loungers are provided.
Coast/Beach
The property is approx two and a half hours drive from the beach at Narbonne on the Mediterranean or a three and a half hour drive to Biarritz on the Atlantic coast.
Golf
There is a golf course at Albi, the course is adjacent to the river Tarn.
Skiing
Skiing is available in the Pyrenees, about a two hour drive away.
Travel
Toulouse International airport is a 40 minutes drive from the house. Car hire is recommended. If travelling by car, it is approximately a 10 hour drive from Calais. Alternatively, it is possible to take the ferry to Santander and the house is then a 5 hour drive from Santander.
Distances
The property is close to many medieval bastide towns which are less than 30 minutes away. Further away, two 'must see' towns are Cordes Sur Ciel (40 minutes drive) and St. Antonin Nobel Val (55 minutes drive). The city of Albi is a 30 minutes drive and Carcassone approximately 1.5 hours away.
Further details
In the village of Lisle Sur Tarn there are many facilities including several boulangeries, a butcher, a Spar, 2 farmacies, Post Office, 3 banks, wine shops and a doctor. The village has several bars around the square, some of which serve food. There are also 3 restaurants including the popular 'Le Romauld' just off the square.
Every Sunday morning there is a lively market selling locally produced meat and vegetables, bread and pastries, olives, local wine and ready cooked chickens and paella. There are also crafts, plants and sometimes entertainers. A supermarket (Le Clerc) can be found at Gaillac, a large town 15 minutes away where there is a range of shops, antique shops and restaurants. The Sunday market at St. Antonin Noble Val is wonderful and should not be missed. There is plenty for active families to do: kayaking on the river at St. Antonin, water skiing on the lake on the road to Albi and cycling through sunflower fields. For those who enjoy a more relaxing pace, many villages to explore, wine tasting in some of the local vineyards and an annual wine festival in August. There are markets to be found on most days in the nearby villages. Lisle itself can be lively, with concerts, dancing and entertainment frequently staged in the village square. A night market takes place in the square in the summer.

Owner profile
About the owner
We live in Wales with our 2 children and various animals. We got to know this area of France when we stayed with friends some years ago. We both work so when we go on holiday we look for somewhere warm and relaxing, where we can have fun and is big enough for family or friends to join us.
Year purchased: 2009
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We chose this area because it was so easy to get to (Toulouse airport is only 40 minutes away or a day's drive from Calais) and it offers a wide range of activities for everyone. There are the beautiful historic bastide towns and markets such as Cordes Sur Ciel, Puycelci and St. Antonin (where the film 'Charlotte Grey"' was shot) and opportunities for cycling, caving, water sports, such as kayaking and canoeing on the River Aveyron and water skiing on the lake near Albi. The spectacular Millau Viaduct over the Tarn is worth a visit.
Unique benefits of the property
This property offers everything we could need. The house is comfortable, with a reminder of its historic past in the beautiful floors, beams, and nooks and crannies. The house is fairly unique in that it seems secluded and private in its walled garden, yet you can slip out and buy croissants for breakfast at the boulangerie in the village square in literally two minutes!
