This magnificent property sits at the end of a long drive, over an old stone bridge, past the vast fishing lake, to the pigeonnier tower entrance of the main house and ancillary buildings: a bread oven with arched roof still in use, Victorian stabling in a far older barn, and the three exceedingly comfortable elegantly converted cottages. The property sits surrounded by its own land of 90 acres offering peaceful private walks. Many of our clients have borrowed our fishing rods to spend happy hours around the lake where an assortment of fish including carp, eel, trout and perch have been caught. Wild birds abound. Amenities on the site also include croquet, badminton, table tennis and a large shared swimming pool 12 x 6ms. There are stables, a manege and grazing available if you want to bring your horse. Our animals include: horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, geese, ducks and hens. Eggs and fresh garden produce often available. A natural haven and sanctuary.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the properties per week in euros. Discounts possible for longer rentals and long winter lets. Please ask for details. B and B available at 65 euros per night per double room (€10 supplement 1 night stay). Evening meals available on request.
Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday during July and August but out of these two months we are able to be more flexible and do shorter/longer stays and B and B. On Changeover days departures are by 10am and arrivals are at 5pm.

| Downstairs is the main living room with comfortable seating around the open fireplace for those colder evenings, tables and chairs for up to 10 people and a fully equipped kitchen for family catering with gas oven/grill and 4 rings, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. The other downstairs room is a TV/study/library with 2 sofas one of which converts to a comfortable double bed, french/English TV/DVD player, off which is the family bathroom with wc, sink bath with shower attachment, washing and drying machines and a second separate wc. Upstairs is a master 5' double bedroom with en-suite bath and sink and bunk beds and an extra drawer bed, a second 5 ' double bedroom + futon convertible to a 1.40, double and a 3rd room with twin beds. There is hanging space and shelving in all bedrooms as well as a table and chair/chairs. Extra fold up beds if needed. There is also a Radio/CD player. | |

This is a very comfortable 1 up one down for a couple or smaller family unit up to 4 people. Upstairs is a 5' double bed + 2 single beds with bath and sink. Shelving and hanging space, a table and 2 chairs. Downstairs is the living space with comfortable sofa and easy chairs around the wood burner for those colder evenings, table and chairs for 4 people and a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven/grill and four gas rings, dishwasher,toaster, coffee machine, kettle and microwave. There is a TV/DVD player with satellite English and french television and a CD/Radio. |

Notes on accommodation
The cottages have electric heating which is chargeable from October to May inclusive. Wood can be bought direct from the estate cut to size. There are extras available from the hosts on request: We have a supply of fans, electric food processors, bread machines, pizza stones, hairdryers, books, videos etc available to borrow and are happy to supply you with anything, if we can, that you may urgently need or find missing from your holiday home. We wish to make this a stress free time for you. There is lots to do on the property itself. There are all the already mentioned amenities plus the property itself to explore: streams, hidden springs, woodland and animals to meet . Young children will however have to be watched as there is a lot of water on the property: streams, a river, the lake, a canal and several ponds. We are well away from the main road. Wi-fi available on parts of the property.
Accessibility
Although not specifically designed for the wheelchair bound La Maison des Amis is suitable for someone in a wheelchair. We are happy to rent the ground floor of this property out alone. The downstairs TV room can be converted to a bedroom with en-suite bathroom and with the adjoining living room makes a very comfortable unit. Prices will depend on the season. Access to and from the house would have to be via the front door from which it is possible to access the garden.
Outside
La Maison des Amis and La Maison de l'Abeille have doors that open onto separate enclosed gardens. La Maison du Jardin has areas both in front and french doors that open onto an enclosed garden behind the house. All the gardens have BBQs, outdoor garden furniture, parasols and easy access to the 12x6 swimming pool which is shared. There are tables and sun beds around the pool.
Coast/Beach
We are two hours drive from the Atlantic coast near Bordeaux and the beautiful area around Arcachon.
Golf
There are some very serious golf courses within 30 mins drive: Vigiers near St Foy la Grande and Les Merles near Bergerac that also boasts a very good restaurant.
Travel
Bergerac airport is 15 minutes drive away. Toulouse and Bordeaux airports are both about 2 hours drive away. It takes approximately 7 hrs to drive to St Malo and 10 hrs to Cherbourg. Car hire is available from the airports or from Bergerac. It would be advisable to have independent transport as our property is rural and buses are not very regular although there is a bus stop 1km away. We are a couple of kms off the N21 south of Bergerac.
Distances
Bergerac, on the Dordogne, with its historic port and old town centre is 20kms away. It is well worth driving along the Dordogne river with its dramatic landscapes, amazing villages perched on cliff edges and fabulous chateaux. We are surrounded by bastide towns (Monpazier, Villereal) and Issigeac (3kms) is one of the smallest and most beautiful, and boasts a renowned Sunday market. Prehistoric sites (Les Eyzies, Lascaux) and Sarlat are all under 2 hours drive.
Further details
Issigeac, our local village 3kms away and caters for all your everyday needs with bakeries, small supermarkets, bank, post office, tabac, butchers and restaurants and cafes. Bergerac has a busy shopping centre and 2 large markets a week as well as a theatre and multi-screen cinema. Our local cinema at Castillonnes (7kms) shows English films every month. There are numerous excellent restaurants in the vicinity, one within a km and several more in Issigeac. Locally there are great leisure facilities for riding and tennis within 5 minutes drive from us and within half and hour there is Golf, Go-Karting, Aquaparks, bowling, rowing, canoeing, museums and swimming lakes amongst others, chateaux and of course wine tasting.

There is a discount for two week or over bookings or for bookings of more than one property.
Guest comments
Guests love this place. It is a very beautiful site and there is enough space for various members of the family to do their own thing. Children will discover a swallows and amazons type lifestyle and adults will find it an unbelievably calming, peaceful and idyllic retreat from the hassles of everyday life.
