A bright neo-Breton house built in the 1970's; front facing south-west. Amidst delightful countryside, but not isolated; sun/shade can be found in different parts of the large garden. Sleeps 4 (1 double & 1 twin bedroom). Lounge/dining room with satellite TV, French & English, MP3 player, bookcase, dresser, table & chairs, 3 piece suite. French doors open to balcony. Well equipped kitchen, with table & chairs. Bathroom with shower over bath, WC & vanity unit. Separate WC & hand basin. Cellar with washing machine & dryer; table tennis table. A picturesque lake (less than ten minutes walk) with its various water sport activities, fishing, children's play area/beach & a haven for wildlife. Village Centre with its mini-market, pharmacy, bar/cafe & pizzeria, where one can meet the friendly locals, is a short walk from the house. There are many restaurants/creperies within a short drive. Nearest town Rostrenen, five miles away with its Tuesday market.

Outdoor furniture, chairs, table & loungers available. There is a table & chair set for the balcony. Charcoal barbecue. The front, side gardens & secluded back garden are set to lawn. The rest of the rear garden is divided off by small hedge and is 'au naturelle'.

Coast/Beach
Glomel is ideally situated to visit any coast of Brittany, being situated in the heart of Brittany. There is a good choice of sandy beaches on the coast of Brittany, both large ones in resorts with many other facilities, & smaller ones tucked away with caves & cliffs with often only a small village or fishing port nearby. Most sea beaches are no more than 1 hour drive away. But not all beaches are at the coast! There is a sandy beach at the local lake, as well as at Lac de Guerlédan, 15 miles.

Golf
Nearest golf course is in the nearby town of Carhaix.

Travel
St Malo is about two hours drive, Cherbourg four hours drive, Roscoff one hour 15 mins drive. Dinan Airport is 1hr 45 mins drive, Brest Airport 1hr 20 mins drive. Car hire is necessary for the airports. We can offer a discount on any Brittany Ferries fare price when our holiday home is rented.

Distances
Glomel village centre 10 minutes walk for local bread. Rostrenen 10 mins drive. Roman town of Carhaix 15 mins drive, approx 15km. Historic & pottery centre with shops, Quimper 1hr drive. Artists haven of Pont Aven 1hr 15 mins drive. St Brieuc 50 mins drive. Standing stones at Carnac 1hr 40 mins drive. Beaches on three coasts within about a 1hour drive.

Further details
We feel our holiday home is ideally situated, being approximately 10 minute walk to the village, with its mini-market; with access to an ATM when the shop is open, pharmacy, hairdresser, barber, bars & pizzeria. The town of Rostrenen is around 5 miles away, where there are several supermarkets, petrol stations, plus shops & a Tuesday market. Carhaix a larger town, is about 15 minutes drive away because of the good roads & lack of traffic. Carhaix has amongst other things, an indoor swimming pool, bowling alley, go-kart track & a park with activities, also small golf course. Carhaix is believed to be the site of the Roman city of Vorgium, one of the principal cities of Roman Brittany, therefore, history all around. We cannot wait to return to our holiday home in Brittany, to enjoy so many things. Beautiful countryside; coasts approximately one hour away, where one discover delightful beaches; quiet coves & family friendly beaches with activities for children. Not so far are the local lakes with their own beaches, where one can usually swim, fish, water sports and enjoy walking. The Nantes-Brest Canal with its excellent tow-paths, suitable for walking and cycling is very close to the village of Glomel. Anglers may buy fishing permits from the barbers at the far end of the village of Glomel. The vibrant town of Quimper with its famous Pottery, Museums, Cathedral and excellent shops is around 1 hour drive, from Glomel, whilst Pontivy, Josselin with their Chateaux is also a pleasant but not long drive away. Being in Central Brittany one can watch the TV weather forecast & decide whether to stay local or venture further afield, as the weather changes quite often at the various coasts. This can be very helpful. Many of our friends are happy to stay in the local area, enjoy all that is around, or relax in our pleasant garden. WiFi Internet facilities are included in the package.

Booking notes
25% deposit with booking (may be refundable (or £25 admin charge) unless booking is cancelled within 12 weeks of the start date of the holiday). Balance to be received by us nine weeks before due arrival date. £65 security deposit required with balance - will be returned within one or two weeks of leaving, after a visit by our agent. Please make cheques payable to "E. Norman" or contact owner for bank transfer details. Utilities included beginning of May to end of September. Regret no pets.

About the owner
We were charmed by our house when we were looking for a 'bolt-hole' in 1991 to get away from the pressures of our full-time work. After a holiday in Brittany we decided it was the ideal situation for our holiday home, as it is not too far from all of the Ferries visiting the area, eg St. Malo, Roscoff, Cherbourg and Caen, with Brest & Dinard airport being within an easy drive away. We loved the idea of relaxing in the tranquil countryside, although, having the coasts within an hours drive away, if we felt like a day on the beach/in the sea. We have discovered that the local lakes have good beaches where swimming is usually allowed, along with fishing, water-sports and rambling.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
After a holiday spent in Brittany, we felt that it was the area we would like to be – not too far from all the ferries visiting Brittany, also airports, plus, of course, the peace and tranquillity of the area which still exists today. Before visiting our house with the agent, he made a detour via the local lake, around ten minutes walk away from the prospective holiday home. We were enchanted by the lake, and also, to our delight, found the house was just what we were looking for. Not far from the local village (10 minutes walk), not isolated, but being detached with large private garden. Local town only 5 miles away.

Unique benefits of the property
Now we are retired we enjoy visiting our holiday home regularly, enjoying the company of family and friends, getting to know the locals and English speaking people based in Brittany. We have enjoyed sharing in the Festivals that take place throughout the year, meeting at the local lake and having the pleasure of a delicious meal served in the village hall by the lake. Music, dance are very special to the Breton people, & they are only too pleased to help you learn the Breton dancing should you attend a Fest Noz (dance). Often we will walk to the lake in the evening especially after a strenuous day in the garden, & watch the sun setting, or just enjoy the peace & wild-life, meander along the side of the lake through the village & stop to enjoy a drink at the bar or a meal at the Pizzeria.
