Further details
Pujols is a very small, charming village set on a hilltop amongst vineyards overlooking the Dordogne valley. There is a boulangerie (open until 12 pm), an epicerie supplying most everyday needs and an excellent small restaurant for lunches. On the outskirts of the village is another very good restaurant. It has a classic French square shaded by trees, a tiny and very old church and part of a Henry II castle. The 100 years war (much later) was ended in nearby Castillon-la-Bataille - and the French celebrate it every year with mock battles! Castillon, 10 minutes away, has supermarkets, banks, pharmacie, restaurants and has a market one day a week. Of course, St Emilion, 20 minutes away, has many excellent restaurants. Apart from the wine tasting and vineyards, for the sporty there are tennis courts in the village a short walk from the house; canoeing and cycling nearby; and several golf courses not far away (see above).

Owner profile
About the owner
We are a semi-retired couple in our early sixties with a 28 year old son who has helped us redecorate the property and improve the facilities. We have also updated the cottage by having a new boiler installed and a new shower room/WC added. So with 2 couples in the house, there is a bathroom and toilet for each. We let it out in the summer to help cover the costs of the house which has worked very well for several years. We love our visits to the region which is a real escape, and enjoy taking friends and showing them the sites, vineyards, restaurants, or just relaxing. Apart from the great location in rural south-west France which is fine for doing nothing, we have also found it an excellent base for days out: east (the coast), west/north (Dordogne) and south (entre-deux-mers).
Year purchased: 2004
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought the cottage because we love to get away to the peace of rural France, the vineyards and the wonderful food (and wine) - both at the local restaurants and the meals we cook in the house with produce from French shops and supermarkets.
The south west of France has lots of interesting places to visit. Pujols itself is a charming old village with wonderful views. It is just in the Gironde but one can go east into the Dordogne or west to visit the Atlantic coast (e.g. Arcachon). St Emilion is only 20 minutes drive away and is worth at least a day to visit. To the south is Carcassonne and to the north is Cognac. Perigeux to the north west is another nice day trip.
Or you can play tennis in the village, cycle round the vineyards or just sit in the sun and enjoy the views.
