Notes on accommodation
The chalet has underfloor heating which is very effective. Because the chalet is laid out over four floors and has balconies and a swimming pool it is best suited to adults and older children. Our young nephews and nieces have had a super time here summer and winter but the under 5's obviously required more supervision from adults.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, the nature of the layout would suggest that the chalet would be less suitable for people with mobility problems.
Outside
The outside living space is fantastic. A patio with decking surrounds the pool which is very private and has fabulous views of the Aravis chain of mountains on the other side of the valley. Barbeque'ing is very special and at night the patio is lit with outdoor lighting.
The pool is about 30 feet long and is heated in summer to in excess of 26 degrees Celsius. There are outdoor tables, chairs and sun loungers. The drive has tall electric gates providing secure access for the chalet and the next door chalet.
There is parking for three cars to the side of the drive.
Golf
Nearest golf is in Chamonix, 15 minutes away by car. There is a crazy golf course in the village.
Skiing
The main Saint Gervais ski area is accessed from the Bettex cable car in the village. This is a 7 minute drive / 15 minute walk or a free ski bus picks up in the village (3 minutes walk).
The Saint Gervais ski area is linked to the Megeve area and provides a good selection of skiing from family/beginner level up to challenging off-piste. The station for the Tramway Du Mont Blanc is a 3 minute walk and links to the Les Houches ski area. The Les Contamines area at the head of the valley is 15 minutes by car, as is the world renowned Chamonix valley. The Italian resort of Courmayeur is 30 minutes drive through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Also at a 30 minute radius is Flaine and other Grand Massif resorts, Grand Bornand and La Clusaz.
Travel
The nearest airport is Geneva which is well served with budget airlines from regional airports as well as scheduled airlines from the major UK and European airports. Geneva is 50 minutes by car and transfers are easily arranged with a number of taxi and airport transfer companies operating in the Alps. Other ways of arriving are TGV/snow train to Annecy (50 minutes away), flights to Lyon or Grenoble (less than 2 hours away). Car not essential.
Distances
Distance to Saint Gervais 300 metres, Megeve 5 miles, Les Contamines 5 miles, Chamonix 10 miles, Courmayeur 25 miles, Geneva 45 miles, Annecy 45 miles.
Further details
Saint Gervais has numerous restaurants varying from simple pizza places and bistros to smart dining restaurants. A number of bars serving good wine and European beers, a cinema, night club and small theatre add to the nightlife. Atmosphere is friendly, family orientated and safe whilst not sleepy.
The village has a market on Thursdays, complemented by random village fetes which always seem to provide an excuse for wine and cheese consumption! All the necessary amenities exist in the village to be self contained including banks, small supermarkets, pharmacy, emergency doctor, post office and excellent butcher and baker. A good number of boutique shops provide gift opportunities. Additionally the village sports centre is good - tennis, large swimming pool, crazy golf and indoor ice rink. St Gervais nestles on the slopes of Mont Blanc. In the summer this means copious good walking, rock climbing, mountaineering, cycling, paragliding and glacier sight seeing opportunities. Children love the outdoor park at Les Contamines with swimming, tennis, ‘Go Ape’ course, trampolining, sand pits, rock climbing, donkeys, husky kennels. The Saint Gervais paragliding club is very active and a number of very good launch sites covering different wind directions give excellent cross country flying potential. It is rare to see a day when paragliders are not flying.
The mountaineering on Mont Blanc is legendary and the Saint Gervais mountain guide office is in the village providing all manner of mountain experience.
The winter ski school is very well located on the slopes. Lessons can be booked at the ESF desk in the Tourist Information office in the village centre or on the slopes. Many ski hire shops providing quality ski hire at sensible prices are in the village or on the slopes.

About the owner
We bought the chalet in winter 2008 and immediately fell in love with the views, village and position. Since buying it we have completely remodelled the interior and have enjoyed many lovely weeks in the summer and winter with family and friends. We enjoy skiing, walking, climbing, paragliding, tennis and, curiously, old classic sports cars. We love the chalet as our second home and we hope you will enjoy it too! Chris and Melanie
Year purchased: 2008
