A large stone country house in a courtyard with attached barns and buildings, also an ornamental fish pond. To the back is a large private garden fully enclosed with gate, mainly grass and fruit trees accessed by steps. The house is also accessed by stone steps at both front doors. It is comfortably furnished but not luxurious, ideal for a family or group of friends wishing to relax. Situated on the main village road where there is a post office, shop, a bar restaurant, butchers, bakers and a Brocante. It is 5 miles from the spa town of Bagnoles de L'Orne which has a lake with pedal boats, facilities for hiring bicycles, tennis and swimming as well as numerous restaurants and casino. In a National Park with beautiful woods and walks nearby. At the house there is a table tennis table in the barn, and a good selection of books in the reading room.Satellite TV and internet. Notes on accommodation
Although this is a family house children would need to be supervised near the fish pond and the steps to the front door are fairly steep with no hand rail.
There are on site caretakers living in a small cottage within the courtyard, although the guests have exclusive use of the house, rear garden and all facilities.
Accessibility
Not suitable for people with mobility problems as the steps to the front doors are quite steep. Access to the back garden is also by steps.
Outside
The back garden is mainly grass suitable for outdoor ball games or BBQ's. There are garden tables and chairs provided.
Coast/Beach
Nearest beaches are the Normandy beaches approx 50 miles away.
Golf
There are several golf courses nearby at Alencon, Bagnoles, Nonant Le Pin and Laval.
Travel
Situated 1.5 hours by road from Caen, 2 hours from Le Havre. 4 hours from the Channel tunnel VIA A16/A28 motorways. There is an airport at Dinard 2.5 hours away. Use of a car is recommended.
Distances
Le Mans is about an hour away on the motorway with its Motor Museum and the attractions of the Old Town. Alencon is approx 30 minutes by car and has a Lace Making Museum, for which the town used to be famous, and extensive shopping. Mayenne and Laval are nearby large towns well worth a visit. There is an excellent supermarket at La Ferte Mace (you can get a good lunch at the supermarket). My favourite place is the Gorges de Villiers where you can walk through the woods by the river.
Further details
The house is surrounded by small and large towns and villages all within a short drive, providing banks, supermarkets, shops and leisure facilities. In particular, the region has a great many antiques shops and fairs, details of which can be provided by the on-site caretakers.
Booking notes
Please email or phone to make a reservation. We ask for a non refundable deposit of 25% of the total rental and the balance to be paid four weeks before departure. We would like a £100 refundable key/damage deposit at the time the balance is paid. Keys will be sent two weeks before departure and deposit returned when we receive them back.

About the owner
My husband Graham and I bought this lovely house five years ago as an Antiques business. We had the business open in the barns for three years until business commitments back in England made it impossible to run. Since then family and friends have stayed at the our house for holidays and all have loved it. We have now decided to let it, we have no experience other than what we would expect ourselves. "Shabby chic" may well describe our furnishing style but all our beds have new handmade mattresses.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought this house initially because we came to it for our antiques buying, when it came up for sale we bought it straight away because we had always loved it and had friends and colleagues in the area. The surrounding area is full of lovely little villages, walking in the woods, bars and restaurants.
The house itself has always been a family home and we have had the most fantastic New Year and summer parties here with friends. A favourite spot is sitting on the front steps listening to the frogs.
It is easy travelling distance from all Channel ports (Caen Nearest) less than 1.5 hours, and only 4.5 hours from Calais or the Channel Tunnel.
Unique benefits of the property
The size of the property means that families, or groups of friends, can find their own space or quiet area and with the large dining table can gather for meals together. The village amenities are a very short walk away as is the river. The enclosed courtyard and rear garden are good for games, the fish pond is lovely for sitting by.
