There are also many local festivals throughout the year. There are cafés, bars, boulangeries, pharmacy, supermarkets and banks. The bars, restaurants and shops that surround the square are covered by stone vaulted archways. The name Monsegur literally means ‘safety on a hill’. This picturesque small town still has some of its old Ramparts dating back to the 13th century. This town and area is closely linked with Eleanor d'Aquitain who married King Henry II of England. Locally there are many historic sites and attractions to visit. Information can be obtained from the local tourist information office located in Monsegur.
