Skiing
With easy local ski lift access (3 minutes drive or free bus ride - hamlet bus stop is only 150 metres from the chalet) to the entire Alpe d'Huez ski (Grandes Rousses) domain, Chalet Verney offers you some of the most varied on & off piste skiing in the French Alps, if not Europe, genuinely catering for all abilities from novice to advanced skiers and those with families.
With pistes from 1250-3330m, Vaujany combines an authentic mountain village with the most up-to-date ski facilities such as a 160-man lift system (one of the largest and fastest in the world). The skiing around Vaujany is not only picturesque but superb particularly on the village side, with a mighty vertical of 2230m, known as the 'Champagne Run' and claimed to be the longest pisted ski run in the Alps. And to top it all, queuing is virtually unknown in Vaujany! If serious offpiste is your preference, the world famous ‘La Grave La Meije’ ski area is less than an hours picturesque drive away.
Special interest holidays
Built on a site chosen specifically for its convenience for both ski and summer sports, chalet Verney is located between the valley floor and Vaujany village. For cycling the classic alpine 'cols' the chalet location is second to none!
Situated on the Col du Sabot mountain road itself which is a major (though lesser known) climb often referred to as 'Le Petit Mont Ventoux' given its average gradient of 8.9%.
Furthermore, the chalet is only 3km above the base of the epic Col de la Croix de Fer/Col du Glandon - 20km+ ‘hors categorie’ climbs regularly used in the Tour de France. Please see chalet website for further details: www.vaujanychalet.com

Further details
A small selection of bars and restaurants can be found in Vaujany village (Galleria area) with some offering late night music/drinks. A nearby restaurant (best for summer) is the ‘Auberge Chez Passoud’ - a 2km picturesque stroll from the chalet located in the hamlet of L’Enversin d’Oz - a rustic eatery serving local dishes in a tranquil setting. Simply follow the sign to L’Enversin d’Oz from the first hairpin bend approx 250m up the mountain road from the chalet entrance. A 10 minute drive away in the old village of Oz en Oisans (not the ski station, but the village at a similar altitude to the chalet) lies a high quality eatery called ‘Auberge La Cure‘. Furthermore, there are half a dozen places to eat/drink in the village of Allemont (below the lake).

'The chalet/venue was superb, everything I expected and more. Training went well too and cracking weather, what more could I ask for!' - Ian, cyclist September 2009
'We loved the chalet, amount of space and the location was perfect for us. It snowed just before we arrived and we managed to ski in perfect sunshine all week! - we'd like to book a summer holiday there too.' - Johnson family February 2008
"The views from the balcony & terrace are stunning." - Robinson family, January 2010
A memorable stay here in chalet Verney - first time in the area and loved its scenery, tranquility and authenticity. Huge balcony and terrace area were great for the kids to roam around and views were amazing - think we were lucky with the weather - was in the 20's each day in late October! Apparently there was heavy snow at the same time last year.. - Fulchers - October '10
Owner profile
About the owner
Having been passionate about the mountains for 15+ years mainly through road cycling and secondly through skiing, I decided to take the plunge and run a small chalet business that reflected the kind of place I would like to stay in myself. Somewhere with amazing links for skiing and yet within a rural and relatively unspoilt setting..unharmed by commerce. I chose the small hamlet of Pourchery next to Vaujany for these very reasons, oh and did I mention the absolutely stunning mountain and lake panorama with South/South West aspect!
I still visit the area as a holidaymaker myself for the incredible walks, weather, views, feeling of tranquility and general well-being - its a ski and cycling mecca too!
I hope you can enjoy it sometime soon. Martyn.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
For one, its very spacious compared to typical 'chalets' in french mountain resorts. It has its own garage, is set in its own rock gardens and provides loads of parking space.
Whilst perfect for the more independent travelers it does also offer the benefit of a nearby (150 metres) free bus service to and from Vaujany village - hassle free quick access to Vaujany's huge high altitude ski lift! The large decked balcony & terrace area (45m2) provides incredible Rhone Alps mountain and lake views - picnic table & parasol provide comfort for alfresco dining.
Unique benefits of the property
In short, it provides spacious comfort, your own home-from-home set in its own grounds providing privacy for your holiday. Set within a tranquil mountain hamlet - yet with world-class skiing and cycling on your doorstep - best of both worlds.
The panoramic views of the area are quite stunning and arguably the most rewarding in the entire Vaujany area - An average of +/-300 days sunshine each year means that you often wake up with a glorious view of the lake below (Verney) as well as the dominating 3000m+ peaks of the Grandes Rousses and Belledonnes to either side of the chalet. Vaujany's ski pistes are within view of the balcony so you are never far way from the action. The giant ski lift from the village whisks you up to high altitude within 10 minutes! - all without queues.
