Comfortable gite for two. Our one bedroom house provides a great base - for exploring this fascinating region, the heart of Burgundy, with its quaint villages, stunning architecture, picturesque vineyards - or just for relaxing with a glass of wine. Nestling in the vineyards of the Hautes Cotes de Beaune, our little house is just 26km from the delightful town of Beaune, with a wealth of sights to see, wines to taste, markets and restaurants to enjoy. Within half an hour you can visit the impressive Gallo Roman town of Autun, or the under discovered historic centre of Chalon sur Saone. Everyday shopping in nearby medieval Nolay. Fabulous trails for walking and cycling in lovely scenery. Or just take it easy and enjoy the lovely local scenery.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday, arrival time from 4pm, departure by 10am. In low season this can be more flexible.

Accessibility
Accommodation is raised over wine cellars, therefore living space is on first and second floors, making access unsuitable for those with limited mobility.

There is a small terrace just outside the front door of the house with table and chairs, and a larger terrace in the garden, with dining table, chairs, deckchairs and barbecue.
Golf
The nearest golf course is in Levernois, Beaune at 28km. Courses in Autun, Chalon sur Saone and Torcy are all at about 30km
Travel
In this area of rural France, a car or any other motorised transport is essential. Channel ports are about 6 hours drive. Nearest airports are Lyon or Geneva, 2-2½ hours drive.

Obviously there are endless opportunities to taste wine and to learn why it is integral to the character of this area, but there are also many Romanesque churches, pretty châteaux and other historic buildings for the culture vulture to visit. There is an annual medieval pageant and an impressive Bastille day celebration in Nolay, Roman chariot races in Autumn, and numerous local festivals throughout the year, many revolving around food and wine! A walk around the village at sunset provides beautiful views of the vineyards. For longer walks or cycle rides, we have the recently completed Voie Verte the ‘Green Highway’ formerly a railway track, which meanders through the area, through the vines, along the Canal du Centre. Use it for a short stroll or to see as much of the area as your energy permits!
There is a swimming lake and tennis courts in Nolay, and municipal swimming pool in Santenay 7km away.

About the owner
I have lived and worked in Burgundy for 17 years, with my two sons - although they are now travelling the world - and various pets.
I love the relaxed rhythm of life here, which follows the seasons. I live next door to the gite and have made many friends over the years.
I have helped many of my former guests to find their own boltholes in this lovey region of rural France, and sourcing houses has now become my career after 11 years of teaching!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
The area of the Hautes Cotes de Beaune has a very special ambiance, as wine production colours almost every aspect of life here. There is always something going on in the vineyards...
So it's a rural, old-fashioned kind of area, yet there is plenty for the culture-vulture in the sophisitcated towns of Beaune and Dijon.
We are really at the crossroads of western Europe, where a quiet relaxed lifestyle is literally on the doorstep of motorway access to the Channel ports, the Mediterranean resorts, ski-resorts in the Alps, with routes to Switzerland (Geneva is just over 2 hours drive), Italy, Belgium and Holland beyond.
Unique benefits of the property
The attractions of being in a wine-producing village are obvious, but we now have the 'Voie Verte' passing through Change. This is a wonderful 'Green Highway', developed to encourage people to get out of their cars and enjoy walking cycling, roller-blading.... through its superb countryside
