Notes on accommodation
The accommodation is particularly suited to larger families as the kitchen diner is as comfortable as any sitting room and has it's own TV (no squabbling over watching a movie or the TV!)

Accessibility
The downstairs bedroom is suitable for partially disabled guests, but the doorway into the room is too narrow for a wheelchair. The door into the conservatory and through to the kitchen are wide enough for wheelchairs and cars can be driven right up to the door - useful as the courtyard is gravelled.

Outside
The south facing garden has loads of tables for outside dining and comfortable chairs with parasols. I have a childs paddling pool, which I'm happy to set up for your youngsters, and change the water when necessary - Adults have been known to have a dip on hot days!

Coast/Beach
if you are a WW2 history buff and wish to get to the famous landing sites, this property is ideally situated for all the major attractions and the lesser known ones too. For those of you who are sunbathers and swimmers, please don’t think that you will be besieged by squaddies or WW2 officianados with metal detectors, the beaches are a real family thing. Whether you are a sun bather or a WW2 buff, the Normandy beaches will not disappoint you. Miles of gorgeous golden sand.

Golf
This is probably the best place for the 'complete sloth holiday'. There are swimming pools in both St Lo (25 minutes) and Bayeux, there are golf clubs at Port en Bessin (25 minutes) and we are only 45 minutes from Festiland which is a children's fun park (in the mode of Disney World) just outside Caen. (45 minutes). Paris by train is 3 hours and for the golfer, there are some excellent courses on the coast at Port en Bessin.

Special interest holidays
There are several Velo/rail sites near, and also an off road bike track near by - contact me for details.

Travel
La Ferme du Poste is equal distance from Cherbourg and Caen (Ouistreham) that is, no more than one hour from each port. Dieppe is a three hour drive with tolls costing approx 15 euros each way. Le Havre is 1 hour and 45 minutes away with tolls approx 7 euros each way. Channel tunnel is about 4/5 hours away and an option for those who do not like to travel by sea.

Distances
Le Molay Littry with it’s wonderful Thursday market is all of 7 minutes away and is our nearest town. Bayeux with it's famous tapestry is about 20 minutes away and St Lo about half an hour. However the real gem of this area is the complete listing of car boot sales and 'brocantes' in the area - so for those of you who love to grab a bargain this is the place to be, most weekends there is 'Vide Grenier' which literally means 'empty the attic' within a half hour drive. Always a great atmosphere.

Further details
I could bang on for ever about all the things that are divine about this property and the surrounding area – I've lived here for 10 years and still I don’t tire of it – It is paradise in the Northern hemisphere as far as I am concerned and I can guarantee that my previous guests have never been disappointed – the only thing I can do nothing about is the weather. But then again - I'll do my best!

Booking notes
Ideally, I'd like to change over on a Saturday on the premise that your holiday will start after the last working day which is usually a Friday – hence you travel Saturday and get here Saturday afternoon or evening – however, this is in an ideal world and we all know we don’t live in one – so changeover day is flexible. If booking for more than a week but less than 2, prices are pro-rata. A deposit of £100 is payable when booking with the balance due 6 weeks prior to arrival.

Guest comments
Those of you who wish to know what my previous guests have thought about the property – let me know and I’ll give you their email addresses – lets face it, I could make up all the guest comments I need and no one would know the difference! – Having said all that, I have had quite a lot of repeat business and am happy to put any future guest in touch with guests who have already experienced a thoroughly enjoyable stay at La Ferme Du Poste.

Owner profile

About the owner
Hi, I've lived in France for 10 years and have been at La Ferme du Poste for 8. In my 'previous life' in the UK I was and executive chef for a contract catering company - cooking is my passion - as is gardening. My speciality is Dolmades made from the leaves of my own grape vine. I've worked as a tour guide and speak French fluently, in fact I spoke French before English as my mum was Belgian. I don't follow fashion and my friends tell me I should smarten up, but when you live in wellies and are always out in the garden it's not that easy. I have no photos of myself to add to this blurb, so you will have to trust me when I tell you I'm a middle aged, slightly overweight woman with no scary facial features - but then you can be the judge of that!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
I fell in love with La Ferme du Poste in the Summer of 2002'ish (dates are not my strong point) - It was a really sad neglected dump that had been left empty and damp for 4 years - the smell when I first opened the door was indescribable - but with a huge amount of TLC, vast amounts of money, some tears, a lot of laughs and an army of great friends and the best builders in the world, the house underwent a stunning transmogrification to what it is now - truly a gem set in a lovely corner of Normandy.

Unique benefits of the property
The main benefit of La Ferme du Poste is the tranquility, most days, you can not hear any man made noises. Being off the beaten track there is no light pollution, you feel you could reach up and touch the stars at night. The road that passes the house - if you can call it a road - sees maybe 2 cars and 2 tractors a day - if that. Having said that, all that the region has to offer is on the doorstep. Paris less than three hours away by train - the station is only 10 minutes away and parking is free if you want to leave your car. If you are looking for bright lights and clubs - don't come here but if you want real R and R you won't find a better spot.
