Pool with lovely view

Château de Brametourte, founded in the 11th century, surveys a stunning panorama across 20 hectares of park land, woods & sun-flowered fields towards the Pyrenean peaks. The tranquil beauty of this ancient home of Barons & Viscounts, including Toulouse-Lautrec’s ancestors, belies its turbulent past. The castle was immersed in the religious fervour of Cathars, Knights of the Templar & the Wars of
Religion. Sieged during the 16th century, it fell into disrepair. The Château has recently been traditionally and ecologically restored; pioneering one of France’s first, self-sustainable castles. Utilising organic and traditional farming techniques, it has become a symbol for peace & healthy living, combining nature and wildlife with our ancient past. While you will be able to enjoy the natural location, there are endless possible day trips to towns such as Toulouse, Albi, Cordes, Carcassonne and Mileau.

About the owner
English couple with interests in history, France, sustainable living and restoration using traditional methods. We have been restoring this lovely château since 2006 and have now opened it as a B&B. We keep chickens for the lovely fresh eggs and use as far as possible local products or our own produce from our organic gardens and orchards, set in 20 hectares of parkland, gardens, woods and fields.

Year purchased: 2006

Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
Lovely friendly locals and outdoor cafes, historic buildings, great weather and food. We are near towns such as Albi, Cordes, Castres, Gaillac, Toulouse, Carcassonne and of course 'one of the prettiest villages in France' - Lautrec. We have wildlife, tranquillity, mountains and beaches. We also have a large pool complex with water slides just five minutes drive away called Aquaval - great for the family and a stunning lake amongst woods for romantic picnics and swimming and boating - just twenty minutes away. We are remote and can see marvels in the night sky and yet be in the melting pot of Toulouse in less than one hour.

Unique benefits of the property
Dating back to the 11 century, this medieval château is frozen in time, with arrow slits, giant open Gothic fires and enormous chambers. The château has been the home of Cathars, Knights of the Templar and a centre during the Wars of Religion and so is steeped in the voices of time. We have restored the château using a mixture of traditional medieval methods and state of the art 'green' technology. Often when guests are shown to their rooms - they are speechless with what they see!
