An airy house, built in the early '60s, La Ruche has its own pool, garden and views yet is very close to the popular village centre of Cotignac. The first floor has 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms: 1 small en-suite and the other which can be en-suite or for family use. There is a fully-equipped dining kitchen and a separate, comfortably-furnished living room opening onto a balcony with views over the surrounding hills. Downstairs, the games room has billiards and table-tennis tables as well as a shower room and full laundry facilities. The separate studio with its full summer kitchen opens onto the pool terrace and can accommodate 2 extra visitors. Outside, by the private pool, there is a brick-built barbecue, teak dining furniture and sun loungers. Ample parking space on the property.

Changeover day
Saturday (4p.m.) to Saturday (10a.m.) between Easter and end of October. Other times of year by agreement.

Notes on accommodation
Living accommodation is on two floors. A stair gate is provided for small children as well as an extra cot for downstairs use.
Accessibility
As the accommodation is on two floors, La Ruche may not be suitable for less-mobile guests as there is an outside flight of stone steps - with handrail - linking the two floors.
Outside
The private pool area is fully enclosed with a lockable gate and there is a pool alarm in compliance with current French legislation. The pool measures 7.5m by 3.5m with wide, shallow steps to an overall depth of 1.5m. Built-in brick barbecue area with teak dining suite. Sun loungers with wipe-clean mattresses and low tables on the pool terrace. Parasols. Another shaded garden extends to the far side of the ample parking area.
Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches are along the Lac de Sainte Croix where there is sand and shade under the trees as well as picnic areas, boat/pedalo hire. Journey time by car is about 50 minutes. The lake is adjacent to the magnificent Verdon Gorges. The Mediterranean coast - Nice, Cannes, St.Tropez, Les Calanques (Marseille) - is about an hour's drive away.
Golf
Barbaroux golf course is 45kms from La Ruche.
Travel
Distances to La Ruche from local airports: Toulon 65km, Marseille 105km, Nice 115km, Nimes 180km, Distances to La Ruche from train stations: Aix-en-Provence TGV (from London & Kent) 95km, Avignon (Motorail from UK) 158km, car hire is available at all these destinations. Driving time from French Channel ports is approximately 11 hours.
Distances
The village of Cotignac is a short, level walk from La Ruche: it takes about 7 minutes. As Cotignac is in the Cotes de Provence vineyards, you can visit - and taste - at all of these, travelling as near or far (max 50kms) as you wish! All the local villages have at least one weekly market, so walk into Cotignac on Tuesday or travel about 50 miles to Aix on a Saturday, having visited all the others in between. Sophistication in Cannes Nice, Aix, St. Tropez and Marseille - about an hour away.

Cotignac is bursting with small local shops: 3 boulangeries/patisseries, 2 butchers, a fresh fish shop, well-equipped supermarket, delicatessen, tea-room, stationers, chemists, Doctor, Dentist, 5 bars, 8 restaurants, numerous craft/gift shops and a comfortable village cinema. There's also a bank with cash machine to pay for it all! Markets are twice weekly in summer, once in winter. Larger supermarkets at Brignoles, Carces and Salernes - all within a few minutes' drive. Activities include boules, tennis, walking, hiking, horse-riding, wine appreciation, canoeing/kayaking, fishing, numerous art galleries, ancient abbeys, castles, local cinema and open-air theatre and music concerts. A security deposit of £100 per week is payable together with the residue of the full payment 8 weeks before start of rental. Cancellation refunds apply.

Many thanks for a fantastic week. The house is lovely - very comfortable with everything you could need. We particularly enjoyed the pool, snooker table and ping pong. Cotignac is a beautiful village. We will definitely return to Provence. Laura and Harry.
The MacLachlans (who also introduced the bagpipes to Cotignac!) Superb! Wonderful house with a wonderful view...loved the pool and the games room. Town is Provence at its best. La Ruche was the best house I have holidayed in! Cotignac is a wonderful village and it was a pleasure exploring the area. Being able to walk to the restaurants in the evenings finished our days perfectly...I have recommended La Ruche to everybody.
