Le Maine Bas offers high quality family accommodation with large volumes both inside and out.The house and grounds offer space to breath and relax in privacy. The position offers fantastic views yet is close to Belves and other villages. The grounds offer a large alarmed/gated pool with solar shower, surrounded by beautiful planting along with a fully equipped summer kitchen and Boules court for out door living. A games barn, covered parking for 3 cars, hard surface tennis court and a childrens play park. Grounds are child safe being gated.The formal gardens surround the main house and pool lead to orchards, paddocks and more open spaces in which to explore. Sports of most kinds are offered within the local environs, endless designated walks and bike and horse rides through magical woodlands can be had. The property is ideal for large celebrations which can be fully arranged by us having hosted many special days including a wedding in 2011. Please contact Sam for further information.

Kitchen facilities are 6 ring gas hob, electric oven, microwave, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, free internet connection and telephone. Television with DVD player. Other cooking gadgets are supplied.
Utility room is sous sol. It includes an 10 kg capacity washing machine, tumble dryer, hoover, ironing board, iron and storage.
Living area includes four sofas, arm chairs, antique furniture and lighting. A large flat screen TV (HD ready) DVD/CD with cinema surround sound,radio, UK Sky freeview satellite TV. Open working fireplace.
A covered summer kitchen close to the pool includes a fridge, kettle, gas and charlcoal BBQ, music centre, and sink. Fully equipped for summer living, close to the pool with seating for 10 guests next to a Boules court and new seating area.
All bath, pool towels, bedlinen are included in the price. Fresh linen provided for guests staying for 2 weeks or more during the high season.

A pathway descends from the upper terrace, passing shaded seating areas nestled into the gardens along the way. The end of the path leads directly into the fully equipped Summer kitchen which includes a BBQ, sink, fridge, table and seating for 8 guests. On passing through the ornate gates, you are led to the pool area. A classical Roman stepped pool measuring 12 x 6 m, with a large tiled sunbathing/play area. The pool has 2 security alarms, a solar powered shower, sun chairs, a separate eating area and views back up to the house, barn and gardens. Through the second gate from the pool area, you are led into more open park land. A hard surface tennis court is located near to the lower boundary. All equipment is provided. There is also a basket ball net within the court. Backing onto the tennis court is a secure children’s play area containing a younger child’s swing set, an older child’s swing set, a slide, a trampoline, play house and a large sand pit. Important notes on accommodation
The owners of the property live within the grounds. The owners home has separate access/gardens therefore we assure guests that they receive sole use of all amenities and will not be disturbed unless wanted or needed. The owners tend to the landscaped gardens and clean the pool 2 days a week. (Tues and Fridays). We maybe seen tending to horses and chickens on a daily basis. There are 2 horses on site who can be moved with prior notice for guests not wanting contact with them. The property is suitable for adults wanting a complete break in beautiful surroundings yet is equally perfect for children as they are safely contained within the gated, fenced and hedged grounds and have entertainment on site including the pool (alarmed, gated, fenced and hedged), play park, hard surfaced tennis court (equipment provided) and games barn including Air hockey, table football, table tennis and a bar for those watching the games.

Notes on prices
During Peak season the price includes a welcome pack, all towels and bed linen and a mid stay linen change. For guests staying in low season, the pool, games barn are closed. For guests staying out of season they will be liable to pay for the utility bills and extra wood for the fire in addition to the rental cost. For guests wishing to stay for a period of 1 month or more they will be asked to provide bank references, proof of addr and one months rent in advance as a damage caution
Our preferred changeover day is a Saturday. We ask guests to arrive as from 4 p.m. on the first day of the holiday and vacate the house before 9 a.m on the day of departure.
All linen, towels and cleaning are included in the price. A deposit of 30% is required to confirm the booking. The balance of the payment is to be paid 10 weeks before the rental period along with £500 security deposit. The secuirity deposit will be returned 2 weeks following your departure from Le Maine Bas.

About the area
The famous sand dune of Arcachon is within 3 hours driving distance. Narbonne Plage, Perpignan, Sete and Gruissan are 4 hours from here but within easy reach.
There are both a 9 and and 18 hole golf course within 10 minutes drive from here. All equipment can be hired from the course.
Special Interest Holidays
Located in the most southerly tip of the Perigord Noir, Le Maine bas is 8 km from the pretty village of Belves and 15 km from Monpazier. Both of these bastide villages offer weekly markets, banks, restaurants and a host of shops and supermarkets. Bergerac is the nearest airport located 40 minutes from the house and is within very easy access. Other airports within reach are Bordeaux, Toulouse and Limoges. Car hire is available from all airports. Should you require help with travel arrangements, please do not hesitate to contact us. About the area - the area offers a wealth of leisure activities which, we can pre book given notice. Horse riding for adults and children at the local equestrian centre, quad expeditions, air parks, canoeing, nature walks and bike trails, Troglodyte caves and cave paintings, chateaux visits and historic villages such as Beynac and Rocamador, a small children’s theme park, gastronomic evening food markets.
How to get there
The nearest airport is Bergerac, 45 mins drive. The ports on the north coast are approximately 9 hours drive. A car is necessary for getting about as there is no public transport available. Car hire is available at all airports. Train services are available from London to within easy reach of the house. Direct flights available from Edinburgh, Brussels, Amsterdam, Stansted and Southampton into Bergerac airport.
Our main towns are Sarlat, Bergerac and Perigeux, full of charm and character with weekly markets. Local villages are Belves, Monpazier and Siorac. Close by are the chateaux of Castelnaud, Milandes, Marqueyssac and Beynac, the caves of La Grotte de Lascaux (famous for its prehistoric paintings), the village of La Roque-Gageac and the hillside town of Rocamadour (second most visited site in France). Canoeing down La Dordogne, is an experience not to be missed.
In belves, 8km away, monpazier 12km, siorac 12km and st cyprien 15km, you will find banks, supermarkets, doctors, pharmacies gift shops, news agents and restaurants as well as weekly night food markets. The restaurants cater for all tastes. Siorac and st cyprien have great river beaches and offer canoeing. Horse riding is offered in larzac, 5 kms away. Quad randos 12 kms away. On our doorstep are heavenly walks and bike trails. Bikes can br hired at prats du perigord (10 mins away) there is a small children's theme park 30 mins away with rides and a large pool with water slides. In bergerac there is a water park. Half an hour away is the etang du bos with purpose made pools with water slides and lake for pedalos. Within 20 mins drive there are grottes and caves o be seen. Belves its self has troglodite caves as does domme.
during the month of september, the local supermarkets and wine merchants host wine fairs where you are guarenteed to pick up the best wines for the best price. Anyone looking for wildlife will be thrilled at this region, the european hovermoth is a wonderous site and the gardens here are filled with them.
Le maine bas itself is highly suited to families wanting to host parties and as from 2014 we will be offering accommodation with an event, wedding receiptions, anniversaries, whatever the occassion, using the amazing spaces we have available here. "Le Maine Bas"
This property exceeded our expectations in every way. The photographs do not do it justice. The owners, Sam and Kieran, could not have been more friendly and helpful. The facilities available at the house were first rate. We made extensive use of both the swimming pool and the tennis court, which were exclusively for our use. The summer kitchen, near the swimming pool was an additional bonus and we ate there for most meals. The layout of the house worked well for us (4 adults and 2 teenagers) with plenty of room to spare. The house is well located. There are numerous bastide towns and villages within one hours drive. Domme, Belves and Sarlat were particular favourites. The hit of the holiday for our eldest son was to be taken on a microlight flight from Belves aerodrome over the numerous castles in the area and along the Dordogne river. (Cost 80 Euros for 35 mins - definitely recommended) Another must is canoeing along the Dordogne. We parked at Castelnaud and were driven to Vitrac by minibus. It then took us about three hours to meander back down the river. Would definitely return.

We stayed at Le Maine Bas last year, this year and booked already next year's stay. The place couldn't be better. Big house, large pool, ample grounds and greenery everywhere. Everything is made/furnished and maintained to a high standard by the friendly hosts who have an eye for detail. The villa is within 30 min drive to main attractions of the area (chateaux, bastides). There are quad bike, canoe rentals and horse riding schools in proximity as well.
Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children and romantic getaway
Ideal situation for relaxation and excursions alike. Very well equipped. Fantastic views and gardens. Ideal spot for discovering the Perigord. The house is beautiful.

About the Owner
We are a husband and wife team, one designs, one builds it and the other finishes/dresses it to make beautiful surroundings with the highest quality materials. We have 2 children aged 12 and 8 who try and help!!!! It has taken us 11 years (and is ongoing) to create Le Maine Bas as it is, restful, spacious and very, very comfortable with a unique sense of styling.
We love the summer season and look forward to meeting out clients, those who return year after year and new guests, who will want to return year after year.

Why this location?
We bought in this region by chance. We put an offer on a house much further South but the sale was complicated. As I was 9 months pregnant, we desperately needed a home and bought this property on the way home, in the dark as there was no electricity! It was the best move that we have ever made. We live in a crystal clean bubble of heavenly beauty with delicious food to go with it too! The locals are giving and kind, there is loads to do during the summer months yet at home you could be a million miles away from it all, the choice is yours.
