The property is a carefully renovated natural stone farmhouse (built in 1796) and standing in 11 acres of terraced olive-groves at over 500m above sea-level, in the commune of Mons, near Fayence - away from it all. The house (a perfect rectangle on 3 floors) faces south-east and its terraced patio is covered by beautiful vines supported by a wooden pergola. It comprises a living room, kitchen/dining room on the ground floor, 2 double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms on the first floor and 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor. This house has been modernised and tastefully decorated, but retains many old and traditional features (terracotta and stone floors, beams, shutters) and is full of rural charm. The windows have blue wooden shutters. There is a 10x5m outdoor private swimming-pool and a breathtaking open view over the hills. There are no immediate neighbours. The location is ideal for those who want to get away from it all.

We provide sheets and continental quilts (and/or blankets) for all the beds, together with one bath towel and one hand towel per person. The linen is changed once a week and the accommodation will be thoroughly cleaned prior to arrival with a shorter week

Notes on accommodation
All rooms have electric heaters and there is also an open fire in sitting room. Suitable for children who can play on the terraces, climb/swing in the trees, swim in the pool.

Outside
Situated on a gentle slope facing south-east, this 11 acre terraced olive estate. A 10m x 5m private swimming pool with perfect solitude is 75m from the house. The house opens onto a vine-covered patio for 'al fresco' meals. An outdoor table seats 8 and poolside seating furniture is provided for 6.
There is a (to be renovated) outhouse (an old stable) on the land, as well as a small outhouse, two wells on the and an old, ruined farmhouse.

Coast/Beach
The property within easy access of the chief resorts: 45 minutes drive to Cannes and Frejus, 1.5 hours to St. Tropez. We recommend Theoule & Napoule on the Esterel (call in advance and book sun loungers for all the family). For folk who appreciate a more exciting splash, go bathe/picnic in the Siagne or Siagnole.

Golf
There are two championship courses at the Four Seasons Terre Blanche in Tourrettes/Fayence, a 20 minute drive away.

Skiing
Audibergue (45 mins), Allos, Vahlberg, Auron and Isola (all ca. 2 hours).

Walking. Horse-riding nearby in Mons. Mountain-stream exploration.

Booking notes
A 20% non-returnable deposit is required on booking with the balance due 10 weeks before the start of the holiday. We also ask for a security deposit of 1000 euros to cover damage and breakages. This is payable with the balance and will be returned to you, less any charges.

About the owner
We're a married couple with four children of all ages, London-based. Both of us work, owning and running our own business. We are reasonably fit and healthy, but like the pleasant things of life and have a large extended family.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We wanted a holiday home in Provence, in the VAR, where both of us had enjoyed family holidays as children. We looked at 20 or so candidates, some modern, some old, some in villages, some in the middle of nowhere. We wanted to be no more than 60 minutes from Nice airport. We also wanted a place where olives were growing, which indicated a pleasant climate for us (as well as being plants of great beauty & charm). This house was no. 20 on the list and we fell in love with it in 5 minutes, and that was in February when it was grey and the trees were bare. The house is in a special & quiet place, in a large natural amphitheatre with fantastic views. It has the charm of the old, provencal "mas" as well as modern ammenities. Plus all the land and olives you could want.

Unique benefits of the property
The bottom line is that the place is just so relaxing. You don't need to do anything or go anywhere to feel content, peaceful and unchallenged by modern life. (Well, there's always the TV and internet, if you're desparate). We like to cook, eat, drink, relax and read. We sit on the patio, under the vines, and admire the views. We laze by the pool or sit in the shade. If the children want more activity, we take them down the gorges a few minutes away and maybe to the coast once a week. Then back to the pool.
