There are all the usual facilities you would expect such as 2 boulangeries, a boucherie, a local general store/off licence, several bars and a creperie, a pizzeria and 2 good restaurants as well as a local tourist office. There are many golf courses within a short "drive" (including a French Open championship course at Val St Andre). There are several good equestrian centres which arrange lessons and treks. A nearby karting track has proved a hit with the "big" boys last year. Freeview television is available. There is a CD/cassette player provided so please feel free to bring your own music. Board games are available as an alternative to the television! For the comfort of all guests the gite itself is a no smoking area! Notes on accommodation
High season bookings........Sorry but we only have one week mid July and one at the end of July beginning of August left.

In our opinion the gite is ideal for a family with 2 or 3 children...or a peaceful holiday for 2!
FIREWORKS - For those clients that come on the 14th July, we have arranged a special fireworks display to mark your arrival in our village...and Bastille day!
Its actually paid for by our French government, costs thousands and is always very good.

Accessibility
Unfortunately this gite is not suitable for wheelchairs nor persons with mobility problems.

Outside
We have a swimming pool in our enclosed garden, it is for the use of our gite guests and my family and parents must accept responsibility for their children at all times. Our large barn (which partly acts as my workshop) has a full sized pool table, table football, table tennis, darts and exercise equipment. We ask that parents also supervise their children in this area as new cloths for pool/snooker tables are expensive to replace! There is also a large trampoline available for supervised children. We also have swings and a slide for our younger guests (under supervision again I'm afraid!). We have a number of animals (well away from the gite). Including many chickens, 5 goats,9 ducks, 4 cats and 2 dogs, oh and rabbits and goldfish. Children staying with us often love collecting the eggs and feeding all the animals. A welcome pack in the fridge on your arrival will include fresh eggs. All the usual outside things that you'd expect are also available including BBQ facilities.

Coast/Beach
There are lots of beautiful sandy beaches to find within a 30-40 minute drive. St Jacut (rockpools )and St Cast (lots of sand!) are among our favourites. The north coast of Brittany is a very beautiful area to visit with many places of interest. There is a local tourist office with much info on what to do and see both locally and further afield.

Golf
There are many golf courses within a short "drive" (including a French Open championship course at Val St Andre).

Special interest holidays
French lessons with Isabelle (a fully qualified English/French teacher) can be arranged, please ask for more info. I am a cabinet maker and paint effects on furniture lessons can also be arranged with prior notice. I have a web site that shows some of my work. Please ask me for the web address. There is a local tourist office with much info on what to do and see both locally and further afield.

Travel
The drive from the Channel Tunnel is about 5 1/2 hours.
Our nearest port is St Malo (just 40 mins from here) is serviced by Brittany Ferries and Condor, it is also possible to travel to Cherbourg or Caen. P&O Portsmouth routes travel to Cherbourg and Le Havre. Other alternatives are Roscoff, Calais, Honfleur and Granville. Ryanair fly to Dinard (from Stansted and Luton). It is possible to obtain very cheap flights via Ryanair if you book well in advance

Distances
"How to get here!"

From Dinan keep on the N176 - direction St Brieuc.
It is 18 Km from Dinan to Jugon les Lacs.
Take the exit for Jugon les Lacs.
At the top of the slip road DON'T turn left for Jugon but turn right for Plancoet. Almost immediately on the left handside of the road you will see a driveway that leads to a small hamlet and our house. There is a sign marked "Clairets"
You will also see my business sign for "homesweethome".(kitchen building etc!)
Le Clairet is last on the left.

Further details
There is a local tourist office with much info on what to do and see both locally and further afield. For any not so nice days there is an ice skating rink and indoor bowling in St Brieuc (approx. 30 minutes drive). Bowling also in Dinan. Dinan, a medieval town is a must for a day out with its well preserved castle, quaint streets and buildings. The famous Rue Jerzual is a very steep narrow lane down to the old port of Dinan but the way back is not for the fainthearted!(pushchairs not recommended!)
There are many many good eateries including "La Mere Pourcel" restaurant. St Malo, not just a port but a beautiful town in its own right, the walled city was heavily bombed during the second world war, but has been wonderfully restored and is full of sights, good restaurants and shops. There is also a very good aquarium to visit.

Dinard market on Saturday is very large and is a 'must visit place' as is the stunning Mont St Michel, built out in the bay, this town is topped by an amazing abbey, the spires of which can be seen inland for miles (Warning: you have to pay an entrance fee when you get to the top of the steps!). The tidal ranges are world famous and it is said the incoming tide can beat a galloping horse!
It's about an hours drive from the gite.

There are many places to walk and cycle locally.

Fishing, canoe ing/sailing and "pedalo.ing" on the lake can be arranged.

Market days vary, but Dinan on Thursday and Dinard on Saturday are probably the largest and well worth a visit to buy typical Breton presents and souvenirs.

Guest comments
'Marvelous. Fantastic. This is our fifth time staying, we'll come again'
'Great for the kids, which is great for the parents as we all know!'

'The boys still say it was the best holiday ever. Arriving at Le Clairet Gite, is like arriving home, the welcome from all of the family was second to none. Fresh flowers on the table, fresh eggs in the fridge. The accommodation was very comfortable with everything you could need, the little touches made this holiday special. Our 3 boys loved feeding the animals and having the use of the family's private swimming pool was a highlight. The family also allow the use of their pool table, football table, trampoline, swings and slide. The boys had so much to do and that is before you go exploring the area'.

Jugon Les Lacs, the local village is so beautiful with a choice of places to eat and drink, and the Lake offers many activities. We are already planning our next visit, back to see our friends at Le Clairet. Sarah and Noel Kanturk Co. Cork

Owner profile

About the owner
Isabelle my wife is a French/English teacher, she's lovely and has a bubbly nature and often has us all in stitches! Me, I'm a cabinet maker and I specialise in kitchens new furniture and restoring old furniture (I have a web site advertising my work if you are interested!). Our girls Toni 17 Chloe 16 Holly 11 and Constance 11 are all at school. Our outside activities include amateur dramatics, lots of sport watching, going to the local bars with our friends for a leisurely drink and a chat, bike riding and country walks. There's probably more but that's enough about us, now read about the property, reserve the gite and come and stay with us.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
My family and I moved to Jugon les Lacs in 2001 because we love the area. It is one of the very beautiful villages in Brittany where the locals are friendly and welcoming especially to all visitors. and it has a lake with sailing and fishing! Our gite is perfectly situated for the local village of Jugon and also has easy access to the larger roads leading to the bigger towns and cities. You feel like you're in the country and yet its easy to go and visit other more busy areas for big shopping! Jugon also has all the normal facilities that you are likely to need like a grocery store, post office, doctors, pubs, restaurants, pizza place, bakeries, butchers and banks.

Unique benefits of the property
There are many outdoor experiences to enjoy and see. Jugon is also very easy to access from the larger towns and cities. The beaches are within half an hour. Isabelle, myself and our children love it here and hope that our gite guests leave here with many happy memories and of course a wish to return! Come and see us soon, you will love it. We treat our guests as we would hope to be treated ourselves, if they enjoy themselves and come back and see us again it proves to me that we're not doing too badly. Contact us for more info. Thanks for considering our gite for your holidays. Best Regards. Isabelle, Sean Toni Chloe Holly and Constance.
