In the foothills of the Pyrenees, just 1 hour’s drive south of Toulouse and less than two hours from the medieval city of Carcassonne, Château de Bardies is a rambling (very) old house set in the beautiful rolling farmland and woodland of the Ariege in SW France. The nearest town is St-Girons, nine kilometres down the hill (with spectacular views of the Pyrenees on the way). The house has four double bedrooms, one triple/family bedroom, one small single and six bathrooms (three en-suite); a fully equipped kitchen; a laundry room; a 16 seater dining room; a large biblioteque with a grand piano; and a large salon with hi-fi, TV and DVD player. Free Wi-Fi. Wood burners in all 3 main rooms. Outside, there is a stunning private walled garden with ancient box hedges and incorporating a sunny terrace for breakfast or drinks, an outstanding shady lunch/dining area under the trees with views down the valley, and an 11 metre swimming pool. All set in 100 acres of rolling farmland and woods.

Secluded private garden (approx 1 acre) with mature box hedges and trees. Heated 11 metre private pool. Sunny terrace for breakfast/lunch drinks. Shady lunch/dining area under trees (seats up to 20 on 2 tables) with views down the valley. BBQ and large gas 'Plancha'. Table tennis, badminton set, boules. Our tenant farmer lives with his young family in a small house situated by the main entrance the property and opposite the front door of the house. This greatly adds to the security of the house and does not significantly impact on the privacy of the main garden or pool area, which is on the opposite side of the house.

2 1/2 hours Mediterranean.
3 hours Atlantic.

Golf
Golf Club de l'Ariege 30 minutes (18 holes plus pitch and putt).

Skiing
Medium-sized ski resort at Guzet (good for beginners but also several black runs) just one hour. Larger resorts (e.g. Ax-les-Thermes, Baquera) 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
