Notes on accommodation
The cottages have all been professionally renovated to a high standard and furnished and equipped very comfortably. Whilst the accommodation is very suitable for families and children are made very welcome, we do very much enjoy having couples out of high season in May, June and September and are prepared to offer generous discounts at these times to couples without children.

Accessibility
There are stairs in each cottage, and two of the cottages have a step between the sitting and dining rooms which clients need to be aware of. La Faisane has a ground floor bedroom and shower room/toilet, and whilst not suitable for wheelchair users or people with a disability it is 'user friendly' for people who are less mobile.

Outside
This area of Brittany is very suitable for families, the peace and quiet of the countryside combined with easy access to the beaches of Southern Brittany. We have two acres of gardens and outside space, so there is always somewhere quiet to sit. There is an area of the garden we call the 'play area' with a good supply of toys - Wendy house, swings, slide, paddling pool, sand pit etc. During the school holidays we tend to have mostly family groups and the children make friends very quickly and share the play area. We also have a large field running down to the River Tarun, and we encourage noisy games such as football and cricket to be played on this. We have a badminton net, goal posts and basket ball net set up on the field. The river runs at the end of our property and our clients are welcome to fish subject to purchasing the necessary permit from Baud.

Coast/Beach
The closest beaches are around Carnac - about 35 minutes on easy roads by car. Worth travelling another five minutes for are the beaches on Western side of the Quiberon peninsular where there is a wealth of water sport, including wind-surfing, kite-surfing, surfing and sand-surfing! The waters on the eastern side of the peninsular are calmer for young families. A favourite beach with our clients is at Kerhilio just at the base of the peninsular.

Golf
We are within easy driving distance of several golf courses. Val Queven and Ploemeur Ocean near Lorient; Saint-Laurent, near Auray; Baden, at Baden South of Auray; Rhuys-Kerver near Sarzeau and Rimaison at Pontivy.

Travel
Our nearest airport is at Rennes (just over an hour by car) with several flights from the UK daily. Flights from the UK also come into Nantes and Brest. The nearest ferry ports are at Roscoff and St Malo, each about two hours drive away. Caen is under three hours by car and Cherbourg three and half hours. The drive from the Tunnel terminal at Calais takes six and a half hours. Your own transport is essential when staying here.

Distances
Our nearest town is Baud, with a good selection of small shops, and some excellent bakers. There are three supermarkets and several good restaurants. La Chapelle Neuve is our closest village - a twenty minute walk away - and has a small shop and bar. For serious shopping there is a hypermarket in Lorient. There are excellent markets locally - one almost every day in Vannes, or Auray, Carnac or Pontivy or Hennebont. There is also a small market in Baud on Saturdays.

Further details
We keep a basket in each cottage with recommendations for local restaurants and tourist guides to what's on in the area. We ask guests to add to the basket with the things that they have most enjoyed doing. There are several interesting towns in the area, notably Josselin with its historic castle, and Vasnnes with its medieval streets.

Booking notes
Booking should be made initially by email or telephone. The booking should then be confirmed with a booking form, which is available to print from our website, and a deposit of 25% of the total rental. The final payment should be made eight weeks before arrival.

Owner profile

About the owner
We moved from Devon to Brittany in 2000, and have renovated the cottages and built up our business over the past nine years. We now have a core of clients who have become friends and return each year with their growing familes, and we are always happy to welcome new clients and make new friends. Out of the busy summer season we love living in this beautiful part of the world and enjoying the tranquility of rural France.

Year purchased: 2000

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought our property by chance whilst we were on holiday in the area - our biggest ever impulse buy - because David was a builder in the UK the task of renovating the beautiful old stone barns was a challenge he relished. The area suits us perfectly, with direct access from our front door to miles of open countryside for walking our labrador, and easy access on open roads to the coast and local towns.

Unique benefits of the property
We hope that the comfort of our cottages and the high standard of decoration, equipment and maintenace appeals to our clients. We hope that having us living on site makes for a relaxed holiday - help is always at hand - but try to remain friendly without intruding on family holidays.
