The Pigeonnier was fully refurbished in January 2012. It sits within the grounds of a comfortable old family house. It has its own private garden as well as a (not overlooked) secluded shady verandah for outdoor eating. There is a large pool surrounded by mature trees and sun terrace. The house lies on the borders of the Haute Garonne and the Gers and has the benefits of a rural location with easy accessibility to the cultural and architectural delights of beautiful Toulouse – La Ville Rose. The house is a few mins drive from the beautiful national park, The Foret de Bouconne, with its miles of walking, cycling & horse-riding tracks, lakes, swimming and tennis. There is fantastic walking or ski-ing in the nearby Pyrennees – an easy 90 mins drive away. A 5 min drive will take you deep into the heart of the French countryside with some fantastic restaurants and medieval villages. Yet only 20 mins by car (or a short train ride from a nearby village) and you are in Toulouse centre.

Notes on accommodation
The pigeonnier is a charming and idiosyncratic holiday home with bedrooms in ‘The Tower’ – it should be borne in mind that the stairs to the top floor are steeper than normal and thus not suitable for the very young (i.e. under 5) or the elderly. Access to the top floor bedroom is via the 1st floor twin room. Screens/curtains are provided at the top and foot of each set of stairs for privacy. There are no closing doors between the bedrooms and the stairs.
We have a small, friendly and energetic beagle called Spike and an affectionate elderly Parsons Russell called Rocky. There is a small flock of Marans chickens.
Outside
The front of the pigeonnier opens up onto a shady verandah with table and chairs for outdoor eating. There is a charcoal BBQ. The pigeonnier forms one ‘wall’ of an inner courtyard (a side wall of the main house, the swimming pool and a boundary wall form the other 3 sides). The grassy courtyard has a path one side providing owners access to the (organic) kitchen garden, and the garden store room. It is not overlooked from the main house. Behind the pigeonnier, the sitting room has a door leading out onto a small private garden overlooking the adjacent sunflower field.
The 11x8 metre pool has 2 sun terraces with plenty of loungers and tables/parasols for pool side eating. The deep end is deep enough for diving. Usually the pool is shared with the owners but solo use can be arranged with prior arrangement. There are extensive gardens with 100 year old trees to the front and rear of the property with plenty of space for dozing in the sun.
Coast/Beach
Narbonne, Perpignan and the Mediterranean beaches are within 2 hours of the house – motorway driving passing spectacular Carcassone. Biarritz and Bayonne can be reached in a little over 2 hours.
Golf
Seilh (15 mins drive) has two 18 hole courses. Les Martines in L’Isle Jourdain is a small 9 hole course set amongst the most fabulous rolling Gers countryside. Other nearby courses are at Fonsorbes and La Ramee (about 20 mins by car.
Skiing
In winter you can be on the slopes within 2 hours. Both cross country (ski nordique – Plateau de Beille) and downhill (ski alpin – Ax les Thermes, Superbagneres, Luchon and many others) are within easy access and have sledging, snow walking and dog sleigh trips for non skiers. All ski resorts have their own websites and offer a full range of runs from easy greens to black moguls.
Travel
Toulouse (Blagnac) is a mere 15 min drive making the property ideal for a 2 centre or long weekend break. Carcassone airport is a longer 70 minute drive. A car is essential as the situation is rural.
Distances
Montaigut has a boulangerie, post office, newsagent and pharmacy within strolling distance. A short five minute drive takes you into Levignac with its medieval covered market, wider selection of excellent shops and very good restaurant /bar. L’Isle Jourdain and Grenade are small country towns with wonderful Saturday markets and good shopping. L’Isle Jourdain has good restaurants (one on the lakeside) and a delightful lake with swimming.
Further details
In the immediate vicinity are many charming and characterful restaurants – from the gastronomic delights in Toulouse itself to lakeside, forest glade and local farm restaurants. Both riding and golf are close by. En route to Toulouse are Pibrac with its Basilica, Merville and its chateau. The world heritage sites of Auch, Albi and Cordes sur Ciel are all within easy reach by car.
Barcelona is a very worthwhile 4 hours away by autoroute.
The Airbus Industrie tours and Cite de l’Espace are evidence of the 21st century Toulouse.
For people wishing to visit the Airbus sites, the A380 factory is an easy 10 minute drive (20 by bicycle!) and the other main Airbus sites are all within easy travelling distance.

"Thanks for making us feel so at home - I have enjoyed just snoozing by that pool listing to the chickens in the distance more that I can tell you! The only arguments we've had is deciding where to sit - I preferred the garden room overlooking-the-pool end whereas Pete preferred the shade of the almond trees. Hey Ho - decisions decisions! Hopefully see you next year" Jane and Peter 2007
"I have never seen a dog lean into the bend like Spike does when she comes round that corner to pay her breakfast visit! I am going to miss those huge brown eyes pleading with me every evening!" David and Sue 2007

Owner profile
About the owner
We've lived and worked in France for many years now and brought our two younger children up here. We chose the area because we simply fell in love with Toulouse and the Midi Pyrenees. Why? It's hot and sunny from April till November. We regularly eat outdoors in November and April. Last year I managed to ski one day in early April and then sit by the pool the following day. In winter it is only an hour and a half to the ski slopes. The local French are welcoming and friendly to the British - especially to those who have a go at their language. We loved the location of the house - it is in pretty countryside, just a few minutes drive from real rural France (small villages, long views across rolling hills and fields of corn). Yet, we can be in Toulouse in 20 minutes!
