Comfortable cosy 3 bedroom gite 1.5kms from the beautiful town of Portbail. 2kms from beautiful sandy beaches, overlooking Jersey. Ferry to Jersey from Carteret. Nearest ferry port is Cherbourg 42kms. Golf courses nearby St Jean de Le Riviere and Cherbourg. Situated in the beautiful Normandy countryside within 1.25 acres of gardens with children's play area and plenty of space to play and explore. We have bicycles for adults and children. La Comte was originally a fortified farm dating to the 13th Century, tastefully converted to provide comfortable family accommodation. Still visible is the original Norman arch with cobbled walkway. All bedrooms are en-suite. There is a fully equipped kitchen/dining room. Sitting room with log burner. Owners live permanently on-site.

Gite is available for daily lets, weekend rates are 150 euros per night. Please enquire for rates for rentals of less than a week. High season 650 euros per week.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday but we can be flexible. Depart 10.30am arrival after 4pm.

3 double en-suite bedrooms. 2 rooms have a double bed and bunk beds and 1 room has twin beds.
1 of the family rooms has en-suite bathroom the other 2 have en-suite shower rooms.
All rooms are spacious and have wardrobes.
Linen and towels are provided but bring towels for the beach. There is a fully equipped kitchen/dining room with cooker, microwave and fridge/freezer.
Ample seating for 10 with also sofa and chairs in the dining area for relaxing and entertaining.
The living room is cosy with sofa and chairs.
There are plenty of games for all the family.
There is a log burner (logs can be purchased from owner).

Notes on accommodation
All rooms have electric radiators for heating and are warm and light. Rooms are suitable for children and we have a cot that can be placed in any room.

Outside
The garden is 1.25 acres and is shared between the gite and the B&B. There is a BBQ and children's play area with trampoline and swing. Plenty of space to relax and enjoy the garden with shaded seating and areas to eat and explore.

Coast/Beach
Close to beautiful safe, sandy beaches overlooking Jersey. Just 2kms to the coast where access can be gained to the sandy coastline with access north and south. Plenty of free parking at the beaches with easy access to the sand.

Golf
2kms - Golf de La Cote des Isles, beautiful 9 hole course close to the sea in the dunes of St Jean de la Riviere. A pretty mix of easy and difficult holes, water and small neat greens. This is a par 33 course situated just next to the superb beaches of cote des iles facing the Channel Islands and has been 9 holes since 1999. The course is open all year. 42kms to Golf de Cherbourg probably the most beautiful 9 hole course in Normandy. A flat course but very wooded with narrow fairways and small greens and technically difficult. On-site there is a restaurant and the course is open all year.

Travel
Nearest ferry port is Cherbourg 42kms, alternative Caen is about 1.5 hours drive with Le Harve 2.15 hours. Use of car recommended but we provide bicycles for use during your stay.

Distances
Nearest town Portbail is 1.5kms with shops and restaurants and weekly market. 3kms to Barneville-Carteret beautiful port with access to Jersey.

Further details
Cherbourg is 42kms with town and harbour and many tourist attractions including Citie de la mer, leisure centre, cinemas and ice-skating.

About the owner
My name is Janette Hickey, we moved to the Normandy coast of France in late 2007 to take over a Bed and Breakfast business. My husband Peter and our daughter Danielle who is now 13 moved to this beautiful part of France and have had a great time establishing ourselves and our business. We are open all year with both the Bed and Breakfast and also a self-contained Gite. The beaches and coastline here are stunning and there is so much for everyone in this area: Golf, Horseriding, sand yachting, sailing and wonderful walks both in the country and on the beaches. We overlook Jersey and enjoy walking on the beach or watching Danielle sand yachting or bodyboarding. Portbail, just 2 miles away, has shops and restaurants for everyone. We are here to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing.

Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
We fell in love with this area of Normandy for many reasons, mostly its diversity with beautiful deserted beaches and dunes surrounded by endless countryside but close to Cherbourg for easy trips to England. Our property is part of a converted 13th Century Farm so has great character and history. We have a Norman arch and cobbled passageway. The renovations were completed before we bought but we continue to work in the gardens and maintain the buildings and have great plans for the barns adjacent to the Gite. There is so much to do around here and loads of history from a 6th Century Baptisery in the town to the fortified church used in the 100 year war. We overlook Jersey and many of our guests take the boat from nearby Carteret(6kms) for a day trip. There is something for everyone.

Unique benefits of the property
We offer great facilities and are on hand to help in anyway. In the garden there is a trampoline and swings with badminton and swingball. But with over an acre of grounds there is space for everyone to enjoy the peace and tranquility. We have plenty of bicycles for all ages to use. We have a terrace with BBQ for use of our guests with tables and chairs to make the most of the beautiful weather. In the gite there is a TV and DVD and due to us being so close to Jersey we get english TV so you don't need to miss your favourite shows.
