Owner profile
About the owner
I am Christina and my Dutch partner is Nico, and we live with my Belgium mother Angèle. Ok I brought the first house I saw! A friend lived in the area and drove me around. I saw what the agents said where houses, on closer inspection they where only facades. I needed 6 bedrooms and I needed them straight away. So on my last day I walk through the messes hall, large lounge with enormous fireplace and out to the balcony with its beautiful view over the village valley and blue blue sky. I had found it! The house needed complete renovation, we where moving out to start a B&B a dream I had for 25/30 years. In 2005 we arrived complete with an enormous lorry far to large to negotiate the narrow shutter streets, so it was parked further away and a van was hired and everything was ferried up.
Year purchased: 2005
Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
I was drawn to the, mountains, forests, lakes, rivers and stunning views to me nature at its best, medieval villages, churches and vineyards. Since I have found out just how good the village is, good amenities a bar, village shop, baker a butcher and a pharmacy, and a riding school, surrounded by forests and ancient woods with beautiful walks and several swimming lakes, caves, and Cathar châteaux close to a national park only 20 mins from ‘La Cite’ medieval at Carcassonne and the canal du Midi both UNESCO sites. In the summer villages hold fetes with dances. Cuxac-Cabardes has the largest in the area! The markets are wonderful. Sundays pick up a bargin at vide greniers (car boot sales), and we are between 4 golf courses, and an hours from the coast with its pretty harbour villages.
Unique benefits of the property
The house was already called 'Providence' so that was easy! It was part of the village château/ramparts built for a Monsignor in the 15th century with vast stone walls, and huge chestnut beams, we have tried our best to retain as much charm and character as possible whilst modernising it and adding central heating. The village is quiet and a good place to get away from the rat race. We have created 3 beautiful light and airy bedrooms with private shower rooms and 1 large suite with en-suite bath/shower room all with tea and coffee facilities + a s/c apartment with courtyard. Relax in our sunny balcony or large peaceful garden, sun beds, sit under the shade of the grape arbour and enjoy a BBQ. After a day of sight seeing and relaxing you could return here and enjoy a culinary experience!
