The small gite is set away from the other two, is an annex to the owners house and has a feature bread oven. All the gites are equipped with all mod cons including many 'little extras'. The 3 gites share a large pool and the whole property is located in an idyllic hillside position giving long distance views over the Dronne Valley. Very peaceful but just a 5 minute drive in between two villages with shops and restaurants and a traditional Monday market. The larger town of Riberac is just 14 km away and the city of Perigueux is 24km. Easy to get to with Bergerac Airport just 1 hour away.

Well, we said we’d be back - July 2007 - and we are! This is the only time we have ever returned to the same place for a holiday but, that’s just a measure of how great the accomodation, location, views and hosts are here! Jeff and Julie are fantastic, very accommodating, superb hosts, treated us all like friends. Thanks again for a tremendous time and we’ll do our best to tell all our friends about La Treille again! Owner profile
About the owner
We are Jeff and Julie Plowman, an English couple who moved to France in 2004. We met at work in 1986 and married 10 years later. Jeff is now semi-retired and was formally employed in the engineering sector. He was the Works Director overseeing the production lines of a group of 4 companies in the UK. I used to work in Customer Services and sales in the nail and beauty business and formerly in architectural ironmongery.
About 10 years ago we became 'born again bikers' and after touring France on bikes we discovered our love for this beautiful region of the Dordogne. We spent the first 3 years renovating our huge barn and creating 2 beautiful gites full of character and original features. We also let part of our house as a small gite for couples.
Year purchased: 2004
Why the owner chose a home in this location
Like many ex-pats once we'd decided France was the place we longed to be we started to research different area's. We were familiar with a few regions having toured on motorcycles the previous few years. The Dordogne was the region we kept coming back to because of it's similarity to the UK in respect of landscape, it's very green due to the rainfall (although not as persistent as the UK). Then of course are the rivers and lakes, valley's and forests, chateaux and vineyards not to mention the many beautiful villages and towns to explore. The Perigord Vert is also very easy to reach with 4 or 5 International Airports with daily flights from UK and further afield. We are 2 minutes drive from 2 lovely villages and 1/2 hour from the City of Perigueux and only 1 hour from Bordaux.
Unique benefits of the property
We now love our new life here, we can be quite busy in the summer months (now that the gites are successfully up and running) but the winter months are ours to do as we please. We have made quite a few friends here but we love the fact that we can 'do our own thing' and since acquiring our dog Ruben life just gets better every day. We both love France, in particular the Dordogne and never tire of welcoming guests (new and old) to share our beautiful little peace of 'heaven'!
