'Maison St Pierre' is a beautiful house in the historic main street of Vezelay on the pilgrims’ route from Canterbury to Santiago de Compostella. Either side of the lane climbing up to the church square are charming medieval houses, including this one, that once housed pilgrims. You can look out of the windows and still see pilgrims making their way up to the Basilica. This can be seen from many miles away. There are many restaurants and shops of character. Vineyards lie on the slopes of La Colline Eternelle, the other name for Vezelay. It is a beautiful unspoilt place set amidst the rolling countryside, woods and vineyards of Burgundy. The wines produced here [including the white Bourgogne-Vezelay appellation] can be tasted and bought in the numerous little 'caves' on the main street. There is also a small supermarket and boulangerie, pharmacy, post office, news agent and many book and gift shops in the village.
