This one bedroom cottage is just outside the village of St. Marie du Mont. This was the first village to be liberated on D-day. The village has a beautiful 13th century church and a D-day museum. There are some lovely places for cycling and walking in the area. It is also a good base for sightseeing or house-hunting in Normandy.

Also happy to discuss long lets. I just stayed here for February and March. It is cold, but the sunrises are beautiful and it is very picturesque when snowy!

Double sofa bed in the living room.
Single folding bed.

Kitchen: Fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, toaster, coffee maker, etc.
Living Rooms: Living room has a sofa bed (futon) and easy chair, 4 person dining table, TV, DVD player and small library of DVDs.

Towels and linen are included in the letting price. The property will be cleaned before a let, if the let is more than one week then arrangements can be made for cleaning if required.

Notes on accommodation
We would rather that smokers did not smoke in the house. The small front yard is secure for young children.

Outside
Front yard looking over fields with a view of the church has seating and table. There is also a small barbeque.

Coast/Beach
It is 5 kms to Utah beach. There is a museum, restaurant and internet access available. It is a wide, sandy beach and several water sports are offered.

Travel
Cherbourg airport and ferry terminal are 40 minutes away; Dinard airport is 2 hours away. A car would be convenient and can be hired in Cherbourg, Dinard or the nearby town of Carentan (handy if coming on the train from Paris). There are two bicycles available, free of charge, on request.

St Marie du Mont: 500m. Carentan (fair sized town with supermarkets): 10kms. St Mere Eglise (touristy town): 8kms
Other places suitable for one day trips include: Caen, Bayeaux, Mont St. Michel, St-Lo, Barfleur, Valognes, Coutances, Granville, D-day beaches, Suisse Normande.

Further details
St Marie du Mont has a post office, restaurants, epicerie, boulangerie, tabac and a very good butcher shop. Carentan (10kms) is a reasonable sized town with several supermarkets, restaurants, cinema, train station (Paris-Cherbourg line) and so on.

Diving in Malaysia

About the owner
My partner and I live in Japan and hope to retire to Normandy in the future. We hope that you enjoy the odd Japanese accent in the decor. We love all things outdoors so you will find lots of maps of the area in the cottage, as well as the two bikes available at no extra cost.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We currently live in Japan and travel a lot so we wanted a 'bolt-hole' for when we need to settle somewhere. We decided to buy the property as soon as we drove along the road from the village. It looks perfect perched there on the rise. You'll see what I mean every time you return from a day trip. It is convenient to Paris- only 2 hours by train. The train is very cheap- only 30 odd Euros each way. We always fly into Paris, arriving early morning. We can get to the house by lunchtime if we get our luggage quickly at Charles de Gaulle- rarely happens! I recommend hand luggage for a quick getaway.

Unique benefits of the property
We often stay here in the winter, when it is quiet. The hiking is great, and we enjoy exploring on the bikes. We also love fossicking on the beach. Thinking of buying a metal detector. In the summer there are lots of beach activities; including kitesurfing, kitebuggying and landsailing. I really want to try the diving, but my partner does not want to get into the chilly channel! Maybe next year. The stroll along the road into the village to get fresh bread in the morning is just about the French-est thing I can think of. We always have dinner in the restaurant-L'Estaminet- on our last evening, otherwise the impact on our waistlines would be a disaster.
