There is a warm friendly welcome awaiting you at La Grande Chalonniere, in this beautiful area of the Normandy, countryside. The house is set in 3 acres which includes a large apple orchard and there is plenty of parking. The stunning views over the valley offer our guests the opportunity to sit and relax in our gardens, on warm summer evenings and enjoy a glass or two of chilled wine or some local cider. On request we can also offer a BBQ evening. We have our own chickens and ducks that are free range, they can be fed by hand and supply fresh eggs for our guests. We are situated just outside the market town of Gavray and 15 minutes drive from the beautiful and interesting town of Villedieu Les Poeles an ideal base for a relaxing break in the countryside and yet within easy driving distance 15 mins of beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches.

Changeover day
Rooms are available from 4 p.m on day of arrival and checkout on day of departure is 10.30a.m.
Notes on accommodation
A continental breakfast with fresh bread, croissants jams yoghurt cereals and fresh fruit, also eggs if required. We can also provide gulten free meals if required we have an understanding of dietry needs for celiacs. Evening meals are also available on request. All rooms have central heating for the cold winter months. Hairdryers are supplied, also ironing facilities if needed. Free wifi internet connection.
Accessibility
We are not suitable for wheelchair users, all rooms are on the 1st floor.
Outside
The house is set in 3 acres which includes a large apple orchard and there is plenty of parking. You are very welcome to use and enjoy our large private garden,on summer evenings, a chance for you to sit after a long day out and admire the stunning views that we have overlooking the valley, enjoying a glass of chilled wine. You can watch the birds of prey hawks and kites can be seen circling also you may spot wild boar, deer and hares, which can often be seen in the valley. An ideal base for a relaxing few days break in the countryside and yet within easy driving distance (15 mins) of beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches. Home cooked evening meals are available and we can also offer you a BBQ evening.
Coast/Beach
Superb unspoilt sandy beaches are 15 mins drive from our property St Martin de Brehal has restaurants bars and shops. Follow along the coast to Granville or Jouleville, you can also follow the route de la baie to Mont St Michel.
Golf
Golfing Granville, 18 hole links course 20 mins drive from our home. Brehal, 18 hole links course 15 mins drive. Vire, overlooking the lake 18 hole course (challenging). 35 mins drive from our home. More information on request.
Travel
Situated 3 kms from the market town of Gavray. The ferry ports of Caen and Cherbourg are just 1 hours drive. Le Havre two and a half hours and St Malo 1hr 15 mins. Regular flights from Stanstead, East Midlands and Birmingham to Dinard airport which is 1hr 15mins from La Grande Chalonniere. Further information on travel can be supplied on request.
Distances
4km from the market town of Gavray and 8km from Villedieu Les Poeles. Caen 1 hours drive and St Malo 1hr 15mins. Coutances 18k, Granville 14km. Visit the Dday landing beaches and Bayeux, with its famous tapestry 1 hr. Rennes approx 1hr 15 mins. The most visited place in Normandy Mont St Michel is just 40 mins drive away. For the children Champrepus Zoo just 10 mins Festyland at Caen and Ange Michel are all within 1 hours drive.

Gavray has banks, cash machines supermarkets and restaurants for your convenience. Leisure activities close by include, golf, horse riding, walking, fishing, swimming pool, karting, cycling and even bungee jumping in the Vire valley.

Our boys really enjoyed feeding the chickens and ducks and had great fun playing in the orchard and gardens. We did not have to worry about them at all. About the owner
We have lived and enjoyed La Grande Chalonniere for the past 5 years, renovating the property and now enjoying the life here in Normandy. We love to meet new people and always enjoy greeting our guests, who have on the whole left here after their holiday as friends. We have added to our family here, two little westies Tommy and Pebbles, who also love company and especially children.

Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
Our home is situated just outside the little market town of Gavray which has its weekly market and also so close to Villedieu Les Poelles both full of character. We love this area because we are so close to some of the most beautiful unspoilt beaches you could wish for with wonderful golden sands and we just love to walk there on any day of the year. Our home is set in 3 acres and we overlook the valley and nothing is more relaxing that being able to sit here on sunny afternoons. The accessibility too of Mont St Michelle and the Dday landing beaches give us opportunity to explore our wonderful area of Normandy or to take a drive to the Vire valley. Our grandchildren love to have all of their Summer holidays here with no worries of traffic and cant wait to get to the beach for a picnic!
Unique benefits of the property
Our home is easily reached from all major ports and is just 15 mins from local beaches. For those who would prefer a more active holiday there are some wonderful golf courses within easy driving distance and many walks for ramblers horse riding and many other activities. For children, there is much to do and see a trip to Chamrepus Zoo or our local 'Go Ape' courses are suitable for all ages. Day trips to Mt St Michelle, D Day landing beaches, Bayeux and many more places of interest are an easy drive and after a great day out you can return here for a great evening meal, on request.
