The house has 1235m2 land, a wonderful living and dining room (50m) with original chimney and cosy wood burner, a light and airy hall with French doors leading to the lovely, secluded garden, a fully equipped kitchen with breakfast table and six chairs, four bedrooms (18/18/12/10 m2), a study (8m2), a downstairs shower room with toilet, a downstairs bathroom, a chic upstairs salle de bain, 2 further toilets and a newly refurbished family room. In the very private garden is a lovely private swimming pool (5*10m), a children’s trampoline plus a gas barbecue and classic teak garden furniture for enjoying alfresco dining. The house is situated in Frontenay sur Dive; a small village about 35 minutes from Poitiers, the centre of the Vienne. Poitiers is easy accessible via highway (A10), TGV and has a small airport with direct flights to Stansted (RyanAir – 1H15).

Notes on accommodation
NB: the house is strictly no smoking. If you wish to smoke, please do so in the garden and dispose of the rubbish appropriately and safely. Washing machine can be temperamental so please follow instructions carefully. Wifi is available but you must request user name and password first. As with most things in rural France, it can be temperamental!
Outside
Secluded garden of c. one third of an acre with 10 x 5m private swimming pool ranging from 3.5 feet depth to just over 6 feet depth. Gas barbecue, teak garden furniture to seat 4 adults and 2 children with parasol; pool loungers and kids deckchairs; gazebo for comfortable dining, trampoline and original swing. Kids bikes available (for 2-5 yr old and 9+ yr old) plus 2 adult bikes (one man's, one woman's).
Travel
Poitiers Airport is about 40 minutes drive; Caen Ferry port is about 4 hours drive and Calais is just under 6 hours drive.
Alternative airports are La Rochelle (under 2 hours drive); Tours (about 1.5 hours drive) and Nantes (about 2 hours drive), all of which are served by Ryanair to London Stansted.
Distances
The nearest village is Saint Jean de Sauves, which is under 2 miles away. It has a bakery, bank (Credit Agricole) and cash machine and Casino grocery store, so handy for basics. The nearest supermarket is Le Clerc in Loudun, which also has many other shops, including a very good drinks shop called Bons Vins. For the massive hypermarkets, head towards the outskirts of Poitiers for a big Auchan and plenty of other shops.
Further details
Nearby (about 20 minutes drive) is Futuroscope, which is a great day out for the kids. There are many good restaurants in the area, the nearest one we'd recommend is Ricordeau, which is in Loudun and has wonderful food and is also very child friendly. In Poitiers centre, there are many choices - one of our favourites is La Gazette, a charming Brasserie just off the main square. There are many places of interest not far away - the Abbeye de Fontevraud is worth seeing and is about a 45 minute drive - there is a lovely little creperie in Fontevraud where you can get some sustenance after visiting the abbey! There are numerous local markets (Neuville on Sunday mornings - about 15 minutes drive) and activities that are seasonal (Donkey Derby at Mirebeau at the end of August - again, about 15 minutes drive) so it's worth popping in to a tourist info booth/shop whenever you are over.
Booking notes
25% deposit is taken at time of booking. Full payment is required 8 weeks prior to travel. A damage deposit of £100 is required upon payment of the balance which is refundable within 14 days of the end of the holiday providing the property has been left in A1 condition.

About the owner
My husband and I live in Surrey with our 2 young children, our working cocker spaniel, Maine Coon cat, moggie and 6(!) fish. We spent many years renting similar houses in France until we decided to look for one of our own and fell in love with La Meunerie.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We spent over 10 years renting similar properties in the Charente so it was a natural next step for us to buy here. Frontenay-sur-Dive is the perfect balance for us - it has the rural tranquility we adore but is also close to the thriving and beautiful city of Poitiers - only 35 minutes away.
Unique benefits of the property
We really love the seclusion of the property - not isolation, as it's on the edge of an incredibly friendly village - but the fact that when the gate is locked, I know the children are safe and contained! And - a big and - our own private pool makes it a wonderful haven when the sun shines (which it does a lot here!).
We have also had the privilege to meet some wonderful people here and are always looking forward to our return.
