Le Relais is situated on the edge of a delightful and quiet village, surrounded by glorious countryside of sunflowers, cornfields and woods, a nature lovers paradise. This lovingly restored 12th century Country post house has all you need for a perfect, relaxing holiday. You can go walking, fishing, beaches, canoe, play golf or tennis, dine out, all within 10 mins. The attractive, enclosed garden provides peace and tranquillity as well as areas for games and activities. Both, a paved area beneath a shady pergola and a sunny terrace, are ideal for alfresco meals.There is a very large, airy dining room (62sq.m) with a piano, seats 24, a spacious salon, comfortably furnished and with plenty of books, opening onto a Perigordian balcony and a large, well equipped farmhouse kitchen. Le Relais is approximately 5km from both St.Severin and Aubeterre, the 'jewel of the Charente'. The wine regions of Bordeaux, St.Emilion/Pomerol and Cognac are not very far and well worth a visit!

During mid and low season smaller groups are welcome for a reduced price.
End-of-stay cleaning fee €140 (to be paid before leaving).
Changeover day
Change over days Saturday to Saturday. Arrival at 5pm and departure at 10am.

Outside
The attractive and secluded garden provides peace and tranquillity as well as areas for games and activities. Both, a paved area beneath a pergola overgrown with honeysuckle and clematis and a sunny terrace are ideal for eating out. There is a large, fenced in pool (12m x 6m) with paved surround for sunbathing. Also lots of shade under the lovely old yew and hazelnut trees when you've had too much of our wonderful weather! There's a games room with new pool table in a separate building next a lovely covered playhouse with many toys for the little ones, table tennis, boules and badminton.
Coast/Beach
Aubeterre, officially one of the most beautiful villages in France, is approximately 10 mins drive away. St.Aulay is about 15 mins drive away and both have lovely sandy river beaches with children's playgrounds, water slide and beach side restaurants. There are some wonderful beaches on the Atlantic coast (Royan), about 2 hours drive away, good for a day trip.
Golf
For the real sports enthusiast the golf course and tennis courts of the Manoir de Longeveau are only 10 minutes drive from us.
Travel
Airports: Angouleme, 40 min drive. Bergerac 1.5 hours drive. Bordeaux Airport is also about 1.5 hours drive away. The TGV (train grand vitesse) goes to Angouleme. A car is essential in this area and there are facilities for car hire at all the airports and train station.
Distances
Le Relais is situated approximately 5km from both St.Severin and Aubeterre. Both villages have a supermarket, pharmacy, restaurants, butcher and of course, baker! Some 20 minutes drive away are the market towns of Chalais and Riberac. Cognac, really worth a visit and a tour around one of the cognac houses is about an hour drive away. About the same distance south are St.Emilion and the vineyards of Bordeaux.
Booking notes
Price per week for 16 people and £80 for each extra person. During mid and low season smaller groups are welcome for a reduced rate. Please pay 25% of total rent as a non refundable deposit to secure your booking. Balance is required 8 weeks prior to arrival date with a £350 refundable security deposit.
Guest comments
We choose this place as it was quite a central meeting point for the members of our family and because its such a big and peaceful homely sort of house. Perfect for a family reunion. Not too far from Bergerac or Angouleme (so cheap flights for all). The house is an old, beautiful big place. Lots of rooms, huge dining area, and a very family friendly sort of feel to the place. The pool area is fenced off so we didn't need to worry about the kids too much. The owner is easy going and accommodating, fluent in English and non intrusive. Lovely lady. I recommend this place for large groups, family/friend reunions and for people who want to get away from it all. We didn't go out to any restaurants, we preferred to stay in and cook our own meals, BBQ, etc. The house is surrounded by vineyards and gentle hills - great place to go for walks. All in all it was exactly what we wanted!
