This fine old Mansion, dating from the French revolution, has massive outer stone walls, generously proportioned rooms and lovely high ceilings. So, it enjoys a delightful ambient temperature at all times. When you enter the imposing reception hall, with its regency furnishings, you will immediately experience a sense of well being - a feeling that will recur throughout the house. A feeling that you are truly home. Set atop a small hill and dominating the village of Miramont, the property is at the same time secluded and yet very much part of the village. From its vantage point it offers wonderful views from every aspect, both of the Pyrenees, the Madiran hills and the Bearn countryside.

Notes on accommodation
Le Presbytere is fully equipped in every way - elegantly furnished and appointed in great style. A style that befits this beautiful old mansion. It has space, it has character and yet offers comfort at every turn. It is absolutely not for those who prefer the minimalism of commercial furnishings in the modern style. This is oak and mahogany in all its glory. The best of England and the best of France at the same time. If you don't believe me see what our guests say!
Accessibility
Le Presbytere is ideal for a 2 family holiday and the very large 3rd bedroom can easily accomodate 2 extra childrens' beds and a cot. These can be made available for a small extra.
Outside
The house is set in an acre of gardens on a slight hill which overlooks and dominates the village. The garden is on three levels and the pool and its adjoining terrace are a virtual suntrap. The pool with easy ‘walk-in’ steps has salt water, very gentle on the skin and also very hygienic. There is underwater floodlighting for those midnight dips and a fridge in the pool house for aperitifs. The pool is heated. There are sunbeds in abundance and ample chairs and tables. The double BBQ is serious and can easily cope with the largest roast joint. The terrace off the study is effectively high above the garden and seems to nestle amongst the treetops. It has fine furnishings to match. The vegetable and herb gardens should give you the chance to sample real French produce at its freshest.
Coast/Beach
The Atlantic coast, with several beaches to choose from, is about 90km away - reputedly boasting the finest surfing in Europe. A little further afield you will find the Basque country - with its great cities of Bayonne, Biarritz and St. Jean de Luz. A different world, a different language - then up into the mountains of Col d'Ibardin to find cheap wine, spirits, food and petrol (plus an excellent cheap lunch in one of its many restaurants).
Golf
If golf is your passion you can spend time at the 9 hole course at Bahus-Soubiran about 5 miles away. Altogether more impressive is the fine 18 hole course at nearby Eauze, part of a small complex with restaurant, swimming pool and tennis courts. Other golf courses are at Pau, (the oldest in continental Europe) Aubertin and Mont de Marsan.
Special interest holidays
You can play Badminton in the garden.Tennis and horse-riding facilities are available nearby. Bikes can be hired locally. Lakes and streams abound if you're keen on fishing. Famous surfing beaches are approx. 90kms away. And, the pilgrimage site of Lourdes about 50kms.
Travel
The drive from the channel ports and Eurotunnel can now easily be done in a day with the new autoroute via Rouen and Le mans. Direct UK flights to no fewer than 5 airports within easy distance - Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lourdes, Biarritz and Pau -20 mins away. Just to give you yet another choice you could take the sea crossing to Spain - it's only three hours from the port of Bilbao.

Further details
This is Gascony, - the ‘real France’! Set in the gastronomic heartland of France and surrounded by quiet unspoiled countryside of enchanting rolling hills, and soft gentle colours; if you want a relaxed holiday in beautiful surroundings where the kids can wander free and discover nature - you've just found it!
The Gascons are renowned for the warmth and effusive welcome they extend to visitors - Gascony now part of Aquitaine - is home to ‘D'Artagnan’ (he was a real person! Charles de Batz Castelmore - born in nearby Lubiac). The village of Miramont -a Bastide, was founded by Edward I of England. History is all around - churches (many dating from the 12th century), museums and roman mosaics. Even the historic pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostelo passes though the village.
Food and Drink -The Gascon passion. If you enjoy food and wine this is the place for you. Pork and beef are of the highest quality but the duck is king - along with its princely foie gras. You can buy all these at local markets, where you can also buy fresh fruit, vegetables, home produced cheeses and honey. Restaurants abound - from the small family run hostelleries offering a 4 or 5 course menu (including wine) for about 11 euros, to the 3*** Michelin restaurant at Eugenie les Bains (just 12 kms away) where the bill could be 10 times as much!
Maybe eating 'in' (especially for the children) is a more practical idea. Not a problem. Supermarkets - big and small - are within a few kilometers, and here you can choose from a mouth watering array of pre-prepared dishes ranging from wild boar through shellfish to a bewildering variety of terrines and pates. For a real shopping experience go to Pau - not only is it a fascinating town - but it has a truly magical food market. The wines here are arguably some of the best in France and certainly the cheapest -Madiran, Tursan, Jurancon (names to conjure with) and Armagnac without dissent the finest brandy in France.
